The majority of Football League clubs have voted for safe standing and ministers will now be lobbied to change the law to allow it to be implemented.
Bloody good news, can't wait. It'll be a bloody nightmare getting a season ticket in there I bet. Lottery probably.
David Conn ‏@david_conn Majority of Football League clubs which voted called for "rail seating," different from old-style terraces, to be allowed in Championship. It looks like they're pushing for it in the Championship first, but once the law is changed, I assume there'd be nothing stopping Premier League clubs from doing it too.
Apart from the Premier League themselves. Is this something that can be done at the KC? I can see the same old issue arising that we don't own the stadium, therefore there'll be a reluctance to invest in any changes, unless made mandatory.
League clubs consider results of standing consultation At their meeting at Derby County on Thursday, Football League clubs were presented with the findings of the recent consultation regarding the use of standing accommodation at Football League matches. A majority of responding clubs answered 'yes' to each of the four questions posed in the consultation, which were: 1. Should The Football League approach the Minister for Sport to request that the 'all-seater' stadia requirements for Championship clubs be reviewed with a view to the re-introduction of standing accommodation? 2. Should The Football League approach the Sports Grounds Safety Authority to request that rail seating products be licenced in Football League grounds? 3. Should clubs be permitted to accommodate supporters standing in rail seating in the Championship? 4. Should clubs be permitted to revert from seating to standing accommodation in League 1 and League 2 following relegation from the Championship? The Football League will now engage with the relevant authorities and stakeholder organisations regarding these matters. This will be followed by further discussions with clubs. Its Chief Executive, Shaun Harvey, said: "The consultation has given us a better understanding of the wide range of views held by clubs on this issue and we will take our cue from the prevailing opinion. "We recognise that this is both a complicated and sensitive matter that will need significant debate. Therefore, no-one should assume that it will lead to overnight change." http://www.football-league.co.uk/fo...ults-of-standing-consultation_2293334_3658021
David Conn ‏@david_conn Government says it will discuss allowing standing with Football League following its clubs' vote in favour. But govt still against change.
It won't be as it is now, if we installed it in the North and South stands, we'd have over 30,000 capacity(I don't know anything about the seats being bolted).
Here's how the Germans do it. Seats are locked in a vertical position when not in use. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/26079503
The safe standing thing is a row of rails with a fold down bench type thing that you can sit on from memory. So you'll still be able to behave and do as the stewards say.
How will people cope if they can't sit down at half time? Terrible. Good job they are bolted. We have a lot of the type of people who would buy a ticket in that area and then insist on sitting down and complaining people stood up were spoiling their view.
the clubs or the fans could have taken the government to the european courts to challange all seater stadium in football grounds, because off discriminationon the grounds that its not compulsary in europe ,rugby grounds in this country or concerts ect.
Maybe there is increased capacity, which is fair enough. Though if there are still seats (locked), and one person to one seat (or standing position w/e) then I don't see how you get much more capacity... Isn't it just easier to set an area to standing - it will say it on your ticket etc...? Most of the time it is just standing anyway, at away games, and in certain parts of most stadiums around the country. Sure, sometimes stewards enforce sitting, but often that is where 'safe standing' couldn't be implemented anyway (e.g. Anfield). Isn't it just a waste of time and effort, putting in these fancy railings - when you could just add a word to some tickets, and tell the stewards in a two-minute meeting?
Their fans stand up when Liverpool go away, so that hasn't stopped them doing that. They've improved the gate system at all grounds, so you won't get thousands pushing through one section and causing a crush. And they've taken away those ridiculous fences at the front of the stands, which was the real problem at the time of the Hillsborough disaster. Plus, you hope the coppers have learnt their lessons. It works in Germany. I can't stop watching that signature.
