Signs FOUR year deal until the end of the 2018/19 season... http://www.gillinghamfootballclub.com/news/article/jake-signs-new-deal-1345308.aspx Get in there...well done Jake
Great news, good to see it is such a long deal as he looks a real talent and I have high hopes for him. Just need to give Bradley Dack a new long term deal now as I believe he was given a 3 year deal in 2012 so he doesn't have much time left on that deal now so we should give him a new deal soon like we have given Jake. Hopefully we can keep these 2 for a number of years as they are brilliant players however I always worry that they will be gone if they continue playing as well as they are as we all know what happens when young players become good players. Hopefully the longer the contract the more money we will get for them in the future as we don't want the Matt Jarvis situation to happen again.
Best signing of the season. I'm not worried if either Hess or Bradley leave us sooner rather than later. I don't want either to leave, but if they do it will be to a bigger, better team than us, it will be for decent money, and they will have earned it. I think our fans better enjoy watching them while they can. Good luck to both of them, and if that's a few more seasons with us, so much the better.
Great news, been very impressed with Jake this season and look forward to some more time with him. Hoadie you can't hope for them never to leave us, if they are good enough to push the team on, which we all hope they are, then just like Jack Payne they will outgrow us, which is how a club of our size survives.
Also Hoadie his 3 year deal only started at the beginning of this season as it was already in october when he signed it so that goes on top of the one year he had so at the end of the season Dack would still be contracted for another 2 years. Great news about Hess Jnr though.
I think that the drive Hess jr has shown has been missing from the team for a few seasons. Seems like he really is like his dad and with any luck will go on to have the same impact and success. Also I know its a bit early but i wonder if i should but a fiver on a third generation of Hessenthalers playing for the club in the future.
From what PT said this morning it sounds like both Hess & Dack have contracts that inlcude quite a few performance based incentives. Should give them both a reason not to sit back but kick on developing their game/skills further. 3 assists a game wont go down too badly ;-)
I'm sorry guys but I find Hess Jnr a fairly plain player. One who if it wasn't for his dad's standing at the club wouldn't have been given professional terms. We've let better young players than him go. I'm not saying his a bad player but he's not as good as everybody is making out. We have a tendency to over hype our youngsters and Hess is a prime example of this. It's a great deal for him, great that it's a decent term. There is something that I have found disturbing is that recently the club announced that no new deals would be arranged until safety was assured. Why only announce that Hess Jnr has a new contract? Hope it doesn't have a detrimental effect on the team and other players who have their contract negotiations on hold until that time.
I think tying Jake Hessenthaler down to a four and a half year contract is fantastic news for Jake Hessenthaler as it gives him some security and it is great news for the club because we know that Jake Hessenthaler cannot be signed on the cheap because he is now tied down until the 2018 / 2019 season, it is also a great incentive for other young players in our Development Squad and Youth Team's to try and kick on themselves and they can use Jake as inspiration to further there own career with The Gills. Jake has not looked out of place when-ever he has played for the first team and the more matches Jake plays for Gillingham the better he will become, hopefully we can tie Bradley Dack down to a new deal as well because he only has one year left on his current contract and I would look to tie Bradley Dack down to a new four year deal as well.
gemini I think you are wrong, Hessy is quality. who have we released that has gone on to better things.
I accept that my view here is in the minority but gio you have just proved what I said. Hess is far from quality. Potential yes but quality? No. Not yet. Maybe in the future. I work 3 days a week with young footballers. There are many I have seen how have the same if not more potential than Hess who have not been given the chance that he has. I just think that had he not had the links to the club he has then he would not have been given the opportunity he has. I am not saying he is a bad player. I am only saying he is not as good as everyone is making out. Because of this I can see why some may think I'm being negative or over critical. But I'm not I am just trying to give a balanced view.
Gemini he has been at Gillingham a while before he has been given a chance, but has shown real quality in the games i have seen him play. The same as Dack last season and with more games he plays the better he will get. We really don't have any other players as these two who would attract big fees for yes potential. Potential is what bigger clubs pay big money for.
I suppose it comes down to your definition of quality, it's a fairly generic term. He's been ok, good at times. But in my opinion nothing special. But I'm not saying that he's bad. Just not what everyone is making out he is already. Still much to learn, much to improve. Hopefully he'll fulfil his potential and become a Gills legend???? Who knows.
And yes I know he's been at the Gills a while. What I'm saying is would he have been if he didn't have the links he does?
I'm with you on this one Gemini, lets not get carried away, yes its great he has broken into the team but quality he is not yet. He definitely has something about him, hence why he was on Chelsea's books and hopefully he will turn out to be as good as his old man but he has a lot of learning to do. He is probably in direct competition with Linganzi and i know who i would rather have in my team, however as Linganzi can't string more than two games together i'm sure young hess will get a lot of game time which we have to credit taylor for. Long may it continue.n
Gemini - you know my views on our youth and also Hessy but I respect you for having the guts to express an honest and opposite opinion and in such a respectful manner.
Maybe it's just because people hyped him up so much that when I've seen him he just didn't meet expectations. I wish him all the best. Just when I see people going on about how much quality has etc, etc I just think people go over the top too soon.
Great news that we have tied Jake up for 4 years. He has a great future, and if anyone wanted to buy Jake it would cost them a lot of money.
What Gills have done is secured the services of a potentially good player. I don't think anyone is under any doubt that he's not the complete player yet. In the cold light of day he's played a few decent / good games for us and brought a little bit of calm and time to the midfield. But the management obviously see potential there, otherwise they'd have played safe he'd have just got a 2 year deal. By the club committing themselves to a 4 year deal they are gambling the cost of his wages against a payoff in the longer term. What he is doing is showing his commitment to Gills in the medium term, and his belief that Gills are a club that can continue to allow him to develop as a player in the hope that (assuming Gills as a team don't outperform his potential) he'll get a move up the ladder later. I hope it works out for all concerned. History has shown that it doesn't always, but that's the risk, and let's not let it detract from the fact that at the moment both the club and the player think it's the right way to proceed, and I reckon most supporters do too.
