We were outstanding defensively first Premier League season under Brendan. Remember, when he used to play? He can't play now because his body is f*cked ... Chico Flores has been much more a liability this season than Monk ever was.
Couldn't disagree more. If only Laudrup cared and showed some passion for the club lke Monk does, maybe he would have sorted the mess out sooner.
No but it was extremely boring. Back when journeyman Monk was setting Championship defensive records ... Leicester weren't that shabby the previous season either...
Do you have any memory that's longer than five minutes .... when we got to the Prem, Rogers couldn't get Caulker in through the door fast enough. Monk lost hs position to a green 19 year old immediately upon the kid's arrival from Spurs. Caulker barely had time to lace up his boots before he was starting in place of Monk. I do remember when Monk used to play, when we were absolutely crap from anything crossed into the box. The first game following promotion to the Championship - Charlton away - Monk was crap, responsible for both goals in a 0-2 loss and on top of it got himself sent off. To say that Chico is more of a liability than Monk defies all sense.
I was at that game, arrived at the ground with minutes to spare after a tediously long journey and should have got at least a point but then Monk made that uncharacteric error with seconds left....not a good day. He did save us on numerous other occasions however, who can forgot him getting in the way of that goal bound shot at Wembley in the play off final against Reading.
<laugh) listen to mr knowledgeable you would not know a legend if he was playing in your back garden.....
How about if he were changing, and training and playing next to you. And I am not talking about fantasy legends of little leagues, but legends defined by their peers in the game, themselves at the top level.
Monk and Gower took a lot of flak over the years while doing a good job when the chips were down, lots of supporters , and I use the word loosely, loved kicking the two around.
Monks first training session http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LaO7ygY8Rno And then who could forget this! 4.50...A huge huge moment http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iQkXtw7vucI
Just because a player loves the club and is termed a 'legend' by the supporters, it doesn't mean that they will do well as a manager. A few examples of people that could be classed as a legend throughout the game, not just their own clubs. Trevor Brooking - took west ham down Alan Shearer - relegated his club to championship Not a national legend, but certainly seen by many at my club, Norwich, was Bryan Gunn. He took over as manager as a legend of the club. He took us down to the third tier of English football, and ended up being hated by a lot of fans.
Of course. The one thing I'm hoping Monk will instil is some passion. It's desperately required this weekend.
I am one who is not happy about the sacking of Laudrup, but its not Monk taking over that I am unhappy about, its the board who seem to think they do no wrong, that they are looking after the club first, yet couldn't organise a piss up in a brewery themselves of late, the lies after the meeting sunday, only to sack him by the Tuesday. I don't like that, this club is run by the fans, the board need to remember that, not to mention sort themselves out as from day one they have been making mistakes, yet they keep getting away with it, the Ki incident was a shocker on all levels of amateurism. Monk will get my full support, and I hope he can get us playing again, but...... I have massive reservations, I no longer trust our board to be honest with us, the fans, nor do I trust them to be doing anything right behind the scenes. They done to Laudrup, what they did to Sousa, pushed him out with a lot of backstabbing, if they wanted him out sooner, then be man enough to do it there and then, the sneakiness behind it all is not good.
