Anyone watching the programme now on Ch 4? Homophobic vigilante gangs hunt gay people and kick the **** out of them and ridicule them and post the vids

They have said gay athletes will be welcome on Friday but this is the day to day life for working class gay people and they are completely hated by majority of society according to the documentary. 1% come out apparently

These gangs see this hunting as a game and post their vids online of their trophy. Barbaric, the ****ing animals

    An airport is nowhere
    which is not something
    generally noticed

yet some unnamed person in the past
    deliberately planned it
    to be there

and you have spent time there
    again
and are spending time there again
    for something you have done
which you do not entirely remember
    like the souls of Purgatory

you sit there in the smell
    of what passes for food
    breathing what is called air
    while the timepieces measure
    their agreement

    you believe in it
    while you are there
    because you are there
and sometimes you may even feel happy
to be that far on your way
    to somewhere

According to the Russian President, homosexuals are pretty much all paedophiles. Its his quote that "...they should leave the children alone..."

Of course, coming from a gay icon, this is rich...

I'm getting the vibe that perhaps Vladimir hasn't seen Brokeback Mountain, given his habit of playing the Russian Wilderness hardman...

Getting involved on behalf of Russian gays is not for the faint-hearted - Peter Tatchell, the renowned gay rights activist, got a kicking during Moscow Pride in 2007...

It's a societal problem in certain areas of Europe and most of the world.

The problem is that while a majority of educated Russians/Eastern Europeans don't actually care about the sexual orientation of others, they aren't willing to care about their plight either.

In 2009 the Serbian Pride parade was to be restarted after an 8 year hiatus (similar violence occurred in 2001). At the time we were hard hit by the recession, the politicians were never more corrupt, people were too poor to pay for heating, food, and clothes, etc. There were problems that hit everyone in society equally (except the 1%) and when the news came out that this parade was to be organised, financed, policed, and broadcast, people started using them as a scapegoat.

"Why do your problems have to come to the limelight now when my child can't afford school books?" This is flawed logic, of course, but it's just an explanation of the general mentality. "If you keep your mouth shut you can suffer like us", "don't come out of the closet and you'll be fine", etc.

Constitutionally they are protected (not in Russia anymore) and the church has better things to do than care about gays, so their problems are perceived as shallow and unnecessary. People just don't see how much they really are ostracised, because they are in a huge minority in our societies and traditionally hidden away.

It's similar in Russia. People are poor. People are cold and hungry. The little empathy they can muster is not for some marginalised group, it's for people just like them. Add to that the problem of western media using this as serious propaganda against Russia and people begin to change their apathy into hate. And when that happens, and the West isolates Russia again, the youth use it as an excuse to behave in a tribal manner where the "gays" are the symbol of Western society and media.

It's awful but it's important to understand why it's happening and not just come up with anti-Russian typical propaganda.

Think of a park when you were children. There was always that one little kid that wanted to play football with you and you wouldn't let him. Then when all the parents came over, wagging their fingers, telling you how you should let him play and telling you off for excluding him, you all hated him more.

Childish, but sociologically its important to know how the process is occurring to really stop it.

Going to watch this, heard an interview yesterday on the radio with someone from a gay rights group who was saying the persecution of homosexuals there is in the same vain as anti-semitism in the lead up to the Holocaust, seemed extreme but this prog should shed some more light on it.

and in india they have mobs going about raping and killing women cos they are unaccompanied.

This is much worse than a group with hate for one minority. this is groups of scum who'll do it to ANYONE they can find.

if they found no gays they'd find some drunk and beat them. they'd switch to another target IMO.

Sorry but Gay people have to keep fighting the good fight to change mindset but they are not hated. I know.. 3/4 gay couples. There is a general society issue at large related to religion that gay peoepl have to work past over the next 20 years but these guys are a darker far more dangerous thing that just attacking gay poepel they are lawlessness and total disregard for life in general and frankly.. a good war would thin the ranks.

National service to beat it out of them... etc

  20. These things bug me. By having a campaign, you are highlighting the issue and effectively pigeon holing homosexuals as being different. I've said it a couple of times recently when people in the public eye have announced their sexuality; If homosexuals want to be accepted as part of every day society, surely they shouldn't be doing things different putting themselves in said pigeon hole? If you are straight, you don't make an announcement saying you are straight!

Who is actually bothered about homosexuals? Isn't it just accepted as part of life nowadays? Sure, there is some micky taking but then, people take the piss out of gingers, fat folk and baldness too. If someone didn't make a announcement but was seen walking down the straight hold hands with someone of the same sex, no one would really give a ****!
