With a few running out in the summer, who is worthy of a new contract?. Westwood Cuellar Bardsley Vaughan Gardner Colback Larsson. Working on the basis that the club is a prem team, most will probably straight away say Colback and Bardsley get a new deal, but what about the rest?
Westwood - Keep Cuellar - Go Bardsley - Keep Vaughan - Go Gardner - Keep Colback - Keep Larsson. - Go I like Gardner, I know alot don't but I'd keep him for back up.
Well Westwood & Vaughan are both ****ed with long term injuries. No way to Cuellar. Gardner & Larsson, mmm, maybe if we can see a dramatic upturn in form a-la Johnson, then maybe.
Westwood is the only one but I think he will want playing time and he's not going to play ahead of mannone.
My choice to keep are in bold, the rest are not good enough if we are to progress. I might be tempted to keep Gardner cos of his versatility as cover, but not a first team starter.
I'd agree with everyone so far and keep Colback and Bardsley (both essential), and Westwood if he wants to stay (but he might not want to now that Vito has cemented himself as no.1). I would also keep Larsson and Gardner. They are both good squad players who can do a solid job in the PL, and I don't want to see us back in a position where we are short on bodies and have to bring in another 10. We're also going to need to use our whole squad when we have the European fixtures as well!
I wouldn't lose any sleep if they all left with the exception of Jack, who I now admit is a very good player. Didn't so at the start of the season, but the kid has proved me wrong. also wouldn't mind keeping Bardsley.
Ustari is only short term till end of season anyway mate. I'm sure there will be a clause that we can keep him if successful but I would have no hesitation with Westwood as number 2 to Vito. better the devil you know and we know westy can step in.
Westwood Colback and Bardsley keep -I'm 50/50 on Larsson as he can have his moments (probably keep in the squad as an impact sub) but wouldn't want to start many games with him
Westwood's a keeper <gets coat> Cuellar can still do a job imo in case Wes/John get crocked and Gardner as a fringe player who could fill in in midfield or right back, though I doubt they'd re-sign for what would have to be a huge pay-cut, but I wouldn't be bothered about the rest and as for Gard's and Cuellar, we have better people to fill places imo.
albeit the Daily Fail http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...l-Phil-Bardsley-bid-ward-Fulham-interest.html Sunderland offer new deal to resurgent Bardsley in bid to ward off Fulham interest
It all comes down to how loose Ellis' purse strings are in the summer. Definitely keep Colback & Bardsley but if the budget is blown on signing Borini, Ki & Alonso then we may be thankful of keeping the rest as back up, but on lower wages. Otherwise, I'd get shot of the rest of them.
Cuellar Vaughan Gardner Larsson. I could trawl the internet for their current wages (but cannae be arsed), but I reckon an average weekly wage of 30,000 plus each would be a conservative guess, which free's up in excess of 6, 7 million per year. Be gone unworthy ones.
