I got strange looks in Cuba drinking Mojitos at 8am every morning with my breakfast of fresh fruit and toast.

The coffee tasted terrible as it was chicory based.

Had nothing to do with the fact you were wearing a kilt did it?

Comes in handy for getting an all over tan at the beach and still covering your modesty when going to the free bar :)

I had a cambridge bar and a coffee (with skimmed milk, it's not the same *sigh*).
Still pretty much 5 stone lost since I started last summer so I can't complain for going from an obese bastard to normal weight for my height & build.
    Enjoy your holiday <ok>!

Also a kilt is probably the ultimate lower body clothing, I always wear shorts (even in the winter, wor lass hates it) as my body always runs hot and that would be the ultimate cooling system. Now if only I could prove I was even an 8th Scottish....damn French ancestry!

Also went all inclusive in Cuba and started early on the Mojitos, think they called it a "Varadero Breakfast" nothing like a Mojito & Romeo & Juliet #7 before you've eaten something to start the day messily.
And you're right the coffee is minging.

The reviews seem really good, a good mix of nice restaurants/bars and also a few clubs to party in till the early hours. Not as mad a Kavos/Malia/Ayia Napa but still more than lively enough to go out on the lash every night!!!

Wor lass wants us to go for some winter sun in Cuba at one of the all inclusive resorts, I've heard most aren't on the mainland so you're pretty much stuck at the resort except for day excursions. Is that right or am I just looking at the wrong places? What's it like anyway?

Varadero is where most of the resorts are. It's connected to the mainland but is essentially a 30 mile sand bar sticking out into the sea.

It's about 2 hours from Havana via bus transfer and the beaches are amazing and the water will still be warm enough for swimming. There's not much in the vicinity of the resorts to be fair but you can go scuba diving, sailing and swimming with dolphins (I just put a tin of tuna in the bath to save cash)...

If you go to Havana (I recommend you do) there is a ton of stuff to do and if you're lucky to be there for a baseball game; watch it because the Cubans are mad about the game.
