it happened when first time Sir Alex took over .. it is never easy for a new manager more with our bad luck of injuries and lack of investment beside this season is the toughest .. with many strong teams around so you expect many points to be lost
The difference is that sloppy defeats under Ferguson were very much the exception to the rule and were generally followed by putting three or four past the next opponent.
You make your own luck, luck is just opportunities taken. I don't think you can used that as an excuse. United are a shadow of their former selves. I ain't complaining though

Sir Alex didn't give excuses too by the way .. beside he needed 6 seasons to build a successful team , and needed 3 season to build a strong side of 2007 .. he learned alot in the process, so it is premature you compare him to Moyes at this stage
Sir Alex had a great UTD side who win 2002/2003 but needed to wait till 2006/2007 to land the title and build a good side .. he was lucky other teams was not strong enough to push UTD out of top4
