Agree with all of this, but would add that we cannot give up on the season as momentum matters, as does our finishing position in how attractive we are to potential signings.

I tell you what, NUFC.com will make for interesting reading. Their mood was the blackest I can remember reading from them after we sold Cabaye. Today is pouring vinegar on all our wounds.

We haven't really had any depth for time out of mind. Unfortunately Mike does not care.

We can take a beating if we even attempt to try... sadly to day it's harder to take as we clearly weren't bothered at all.
Expect an awful few games to come too...

Knowing the idiocy of our club we'll probably go and become the first team to beat Mourinho's Chelsea at the Bridge...

Unless Cisse is back Ameobi will still be playing. This which means more of the longball dream in which case I doubt it.

Apparently this is an extract from Pardews post match interview:

"maybe we were TOO hyped up for the game"

Ah yes, that will explain the lack of determination from all players in black and white. They were so hyped that they lost out on every 50/50, were second best all over the pitch.

Pardew's post match interview is meant to be a classic example of bullshit bingo.
Make yourself a card folks and sit back and enjoy.

Pardew doesn't know why frankly and it's far too early for managers to react honestly or with certainty straight after a match like that.

It's a rubbish answer, but is there ever anything they can say to smooth over a performance like that?

He's hurting. He's feeling as sorry for himself as the players are and the fans are after this week. The preparations have been awful, circumstances totally demoralising.
We expect footballers and managers etc to be utterly professional and faultless because of the money they earn, but they aren't.

The very best are the ones who excel under adversity and pressure. You wouldn't find any of us before today saying that NUFC employ the very best so it's no shock.

Sunderland are enjoying a period where they are totally on a high, everything going for them – probably for the first time this season. We've already had our purple period it seems.

However what I've also noticed about Newcastle over the years is there is a tendency for being overly emotional.
It surely must stem from the fervent fan base and the football climate surrounding the club. How many times have we seen NUFC teams almost shoot themselves in the foot or capitulate to heavy defeats when the going gets tough?

It's almost like a pressing of the self-destruct, a poetic falling on the sword to maximise disappointment and reaction.

That culture has to stop for this club to ever really progress on the pitch, regardless of EVERYTHING else.

Taylor, Shola, Sammy and Santon should be dropped for next game, bring in Mbiwa, De Jong, Mmarveaux and Haidara.

I don't use that as an excuse as that is one poor team that beat us today.

Big problem today was there was no leaders on the pitch. Sissoko came the closest to doing himself some justice but the rest were just a bunch of kids running round like headless chickens. If Colo and Cabaye had been out there they would have slowed it down and bought some calm to the team. As it is they just lost the plot. This is just as much a long term problem that needs to be fixed. Colo will be off at the end of the season and we don't have any other players who bring that level of professionalism to our game.

It is according to the transfer spending over 5 years link that Its The Hope That Kills posted yesterday. We're at -£45,000,000 whilst Sunderland have spent £46,930,000.

It's particularly good fun to see that we've spent a net £66,650,000 less than Norwich over the past 5 seasons, £80,470,000 less than Cardiff and, ehm, £136,175,000 less than... Stoke.
