to potential players as as stepping stone to the big time.

He is intent on signing stars of the future that he can buy in the 4-5 million bracket or cheaper, stick them on a 5 yr contract and then sell them after 2 years if they have made any sort of impact.

This will happen with Tiote - he will be away next summer if not this for big money. Ben Afra ditto. Cabaye ditto.

We are nothing but a feeder club for the big boys.

He sees Newcastle as a business and a business has to make money. I really do believe that he doesn't give a toss about Newcastle - for him it could be Anyteam United.

    Sad really...

It's not so much pessimism more realism-come-pessimism.

Thing is though you'd hope these "stars of the future" would send us up the table to a place where the club doesn't need to make player sales to be profitable. In an ideal world we'd gradually move up the table, occasionly selling and replacing (happens at every club) but always improving to become a consitint Eurpoa league team.

I think it's going to be impossible to get CL without mega investment.

Loving the positive energy with the positive vibes you're sending out on your first post!

Seriously though , I think you may have a point. It saddens me to say that.

sorry, but I agree with the o.p.

Ashley has done a massive straw poll with the fans

he wanted to know how committed the fans were to the club, so he offered 10 year price freeze on season tickets,
many and a mean thousands signed up for this, giving him the information that he needed

that he could do anything with the club and no matter what, the fans (the lifeblood of the club) would stay loyal to the club

and I'm afraid that I'm guilty of helping him in his quest by buying a 3 year season ticket with money paid upfront

he has my money now, and what am I going to do about it, absolutely nothing

he can hire and fire who he wants and when he wants as it looks like Pardew just has to bow down to his every command

Pardews comments of "We have to look after the best players at the club" seems to be falling on deaf ears

Can totally see the logic in this post. Its very much what seems to be happening.

However to put some positive spin on Ashleys plan - if he wants to make Money the place to make it is in the Champions League, so thats a big carrott for Ashley and if we 'click' as team with a young squad we might just see some good times ahead (as fans along for the ride).

I'm not an Ashley fan - However I dont believe that Ashleys interest is soley the money element. If it was why does he bother turning up to watch the games? He will want success - the more successful the club is the more money it makes.

Probably right, but if we can get top money for them and still replace them with players just as good for cheaper, it isn't the worst way of doing stuff, nor the best though.

I can see Ashley doing this until/ if we get Europe (could be a long wait).

Of course he has a point! It is realism, not pesimism. Have people forgotten what Ashley and his cronies have put us through in the last few years?!

He's maximising what he can out of the club whilst trying to make it self sufficient.

In a sense; that's not a bad thing.

Buy a player at a lower cost (taking a gamble that they can improve) and if they generate interest from an alternate club; sell at a much inflated price.

    Repeat process.

I think Arsenal work on a similar method as well and I'd love to have football played in the style of Arsenal.

    Wouldn't you?
