The west London club have rejected a £10.6 million offer from Lazio for the 22-year-old whilst Shakhtar Donetsk, Sunderland and West Brom have also made enquiries 15 Jun 2011 09:18:00 EXCLUSIVE By Wayne Veysey | Chief Correspondent Juventus have made an approach for Queens Park Rangers playmaker Adel Taarabt, Goal.com can reveal. The Serie A giants have registered their interest in the Moroccan, who has become a target of several leading clubs following his outstanding performances in QPRâs Championship-winning season. Lazio have already had a £10.6 million bid rejected for Taarabt since the end of last season, whilst Shakhtar Donetsk, Sunderland and West Brom are also closely tracking the 22-year-old. However, QPR are confident of fending off interest in their prize asset this summer, principally because he only wants to move to one of the worldâs elite clubs. âTaarabt is not interested in moving to a mid-table Premier League club,â an insider told Goal.com. âHe wants to go to somewhere like Arsenal, Chelsea, Barcelona or Real Madrid. He would rather wait, show what he can do in the Premier League and then have a number of options on the table and go for the best one.â A club of Juventusâ prestige would also fit the bill for Taarabt, although the Italians want to wait to see how he adapts to the Premier League in the first half of next season before putting together a deal to take the forward to Italy. Although Juveâs scouts have given glowing reports about the Moroccanâs match-winning qualities, there are understood to be doubts about his temperament and consistency. Taarabt stormed out of the Moroccan camp earlier this month after learning he would not start an African Nationsâ Cup qualifier against Algeria and vowed to quit playing for his country. It is the latest controversy to hit the playerâs career, although his 19 goals in 44 games for QPR last season were instrumental in getting the Londoners promoted and he is regarded at Loftus Road as a key player in their bid to avoid relegation next season. Manager Neil Warnock has admitted that Taarabt requires careful handling but has managed to get the best out of the player in a roving role just behind the main striker. QPRâs confidence that they can hang on to the Moroccan at least until the January window is bolstered by the knowledge that Taarabt has two years to run on a contract which will see his wages doubled to around £25,000-a-week as a direct result of the clubâs promotion to the Premier League. http://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/2896/prem....ar-adel-taarabt
Nice to see some interesting football news on here rather than have to listen to knobheads all the time trying to look for arguements
“Taarabt is not interested in moving to a mid-table Premier League club,” an insider told Goal.com.(ROUGHLY TRANSLATED THIS MEANS 'WE MADE THIS BIT UP] “He wants to go to somewhere like Arsenal, Chelsea, Barcelona or Real Madrid. He would rather wait, show what he can do in the Premier League and then have a number of options on the table and go for the best one.”
If Lazio have bid 10.6 million,i can't believe Ecclestone would turn it down. However lets just hope Juve,or any of the big boys don't put in a bigger bid until next year.
There's no point shipping a £10.6m asset out at this stage - especially when our needs are so great and our transfer and wage budget no low. Anyone can see that Taarabt's stock is growing and in time we can treble his value. Even the Goons must've caught that bit...
There's no way on earth Lazio bid 10.6m quid. If they had've done, Ecclestone would've driven him there through the middle of the night.
I've been saying since the Leeds game, he's played his last game in hoops. Hope I'm wrong, happens occasionally!
This is what I can't understand. Why would you flog a player with 2 years left on his contract at 5 or 10 mill, when you'd be asking and probably getting multiple returns in January? Were Newcastle going to get £35m for Carroll last summer? Were they ****. Surely if that money-minded dick Ecclestone can see the potential for making a killing for control of the club, he can wait until Taarabt's stock value ripens a bit... For a million or so quid's investment last August, the right price at the right time would come close to wiping out the club's debts.
Afternoon Brixton Does your equation, take into account any clauses in that contract? And the stroppy kid and his agent agitating?
The part of this that I can't get my head around, is why would we want to sell one of the few players we have that have the ability to hurt Premier league defences? Surely, whatever fee we secured for him, a similar amount, if not more would have to be spent to replace him with someone of similar talent. Unless, Sir Neil thinks he wouldn't fit into his Premier league tactics, or it's out of his hands altogether.
Hi North. There's bound to be some sort of get out clause but any fool (including agents advising stroppy kids) must be able to see that if he's as good as he thinks he is, both the options and the benefits will be times better for all barring the purchaser come January (including direct first team assurances at Real Milentus or wherever). However, I note your feeling that we won't be seeing him in hoops again - and I worry you may be right!
I can't make my mind up if Taarabt will be a huge benifit to us in the premiership. Of course he is our most talented player but if he goes missing in games the pressure on the other players is going to be very hard for them. At the moment I feel we would be better getting 10 million and spending that on more consistant players. What would worry me though is that the goons would pocket that money and give nothing back to spend.
Of course he's good enough for the Prem! Have any of you guys even seen him play? Jesus. He will have as many ****e days as he has good ones, but he's a matchwinner and by far our biggest talent. Watch the Cardiff 2-2 highlighs and tell me a player in England that could've scored those 2 goals. £10m is not enough, this guy gives us a chance in every game we play next season.
There's loads of players that could have scored those two goals (cracking goals none the less), Bothroyd scored an even better one in the same game for Christ's sake! And saying 10m quid isn't enough for a player that's never kicked a Premier League ball is bordering on the ridiculous. Don't get carried away.
