Rhodes has been consistently banging in goals now for a few years and yet he remains at Blackburn. Why? Not slagging off Blackburn, but surely he was worth a punt by a bigger club. I would have thought that at least one Prem club would have taken a chance on him. Iâm sure every scout worth his salt will have watched him, so whatâs wrong? Is it attitude, lack of pace, lack of height etc. I just canât understand it.
Yes. The asking price is £10 mil, but you would have thought that some club would have tried an exchange plus cash deal, but nothing. Also apart from Hull the same could be said of Charlie.
All of the above, they overpaid for him, £8m I think and they think he's worth more now. In reality he is worth around the same as our Charlie and Gary Hooper,£4-5m
Could also be what personal terms he/his agent is after. I really think TF would have paid 10 mil for him, but not make the mistake of paying too much in wages.
Totally agree. In any case we should get our money back from the likely sale of Remy in the summer. Definitely would have been worth a punt as far as I'm concerned.
Nothing wrong with Rhodes, but we were never going to throw £8-10 million at anyone in this window. Loan signings and frees were the way to go until we know where we are in May.
or the other, much more valid point, he's not good enough for the prem. His form for his country has been nothing short of abysmal, and there is a reason premier league clubs aren't taking him, and it is purely because he is an overrated player. He is a Championship player at best.
Agreed but because he's local, the dollars sound too much ...................... if he had only one name, came from Spain, Italy or Brazil, teams would have paid that plus some.
He's just too expensive. Up to the start of last season he'd not played above L1 level other than to be rejected by Ipswich 3 years earlier. Blackburn then offered £8M and a reported £40k/wk. Nobody else in the Championship could match that, the nearest was Leicester matching those wages for Beckford, but on a far lower transfer fee, and teams in the PL like you weren't going to beat that when they could get players like Remy who are proven at a higher level for the same fee (granted higher wages). Even now, ok he hasn't scored for a while, but Jelavic has about a 1 in 3 return in the PL (I think I took sub appearances to be 1/3 of a start), and we've got him for a smaller fee and less in wages than Blackburn paid for Rhodes. Since Rhodes is now proven at Championship level rather than just L1 Blackburn obviously want to make a profit, but even at £10M you can do what Fulham have done and get someone with good Champions League experience.
Has no-one on this thread considered that Blackburn didn't want to sell him? After all, they're only 5 points off the play-offs and decent form in the run-in could see them in the mix. Without his goals they would be relegation contenders so there's some logic to keeping him. Naming a silly asking price is a good way of fending off all but the most stupid of suitors, as we used to be...
Well, what is done is done. I would hope our management team and scouts are beginning their planning for player targets for next season. There will be a lot of players out of contract and a lot of options for new players to be brought in. We need to be starting business early and ensuring these players are at pre-season (especially if it's a campaign in the EPL).
