Did anyone on here consider themselves a Punk? I would love to be able to say yes, but my mam wouldn't let me. Bought all the music tho, and wish I had a lot of that vinyl now. I loved most - particular favourite were the Buzzcocks. Apparently they signed Cattermole from Stoke after they had signed him from SAFC. That ok Commach? x
Buzzcocks still going strong. get yourself to see them, playing O2 Academy in Newcastle on 4th May with UK Subs / Penetration / Ed Tudor Pole. if you like The Stranglers, there on in March for 40th Anniversary Tour - Sunderlands' very own Baz Warne once of the Toy Dolls is current singer. He is f****** good. Best of the lot later in the year - From The Jam with the Settings Sons Album again at the O2. One of the best live bands I've ever seen, close your eyes and its just like the Jam. Foxton is better than ever.
Saw the Jam for NOWT in 1977 at the Seaburn Hall. Next week it was the Stranglers for 50p. Same venue! My hair is also like a Mohican now, but the family call it a receding hairline! x
aye, I read something about that. but I though that be more like the Metro Arena. most of the bands I see would be lost in a 4,000 seater so it should bring an alternative venue to go to in the area. we don't have enough venues in the North East and have to travel half the time to see anyone. the beauty of the Academy with it being mainly a compact standing venue is that you are up close and personal. saw James/Echo and Bunnymen, and Inspiral Carpets last year and they were brilliant. i've only ever been once to the Arena to see Weller and it was half empty, but a 4,000 seater would have been ideal.
Thing for me was although I liked Weller, without knowing the facts I think he sold the two bandmates from the Jam down the river, so that colours my perspective. Willing to be proved wrong x
