    Good to Dundee Utd

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/25977700?

Dundee United have signed defender Curtis Good on loan from Newcastle for the rest of the season.
The 20-year-old Australian will go straight into the squad for Saturday's trip to Partick Thistle, subject to international clearance.
Good moved to St James' Park on a six-year contract from Melbourne Heart in July 2012.
He played in a Capital One Cup win at Morecambe in August following a brief spell on loan at Bradford last season.
"Curtis comes to us highly recommended and from a well respected club," said United boss Jackie McNamara. "He is left footed and can play as either a central defender or left back.
"These are areas that require cover and it was important this was addressed during the window.
"He is 6ft,1 and strong and should give a different option to the defenders already at the club. I am very happy to have this deal completed; it offers Curtis the opportunity to get some game time whilst enhancing our squad for the latter part of the season."

Happy with this. We need to get our younger players out there playing competitive football. It's will speed up their progression much faster than reserve team football will.

He isn't going to break into the first team this season.
Good decision to loan him out and hopefully it will benefit both him and club as it did with Dummett.

The way things seem to be going, or not going, they might all be here and getting games.

I would sell Amalfitano, Abeid, Jonas and Vuckic (along with Obertan) and keep Fergie, Tavernier & Campbell. Might just about generate enough to get one or maybe even two players who can genuinely threaten the first team places.

Not sure about Newton, although I think his contract expires in the summer, so they might just choose not to renew it?

Abeid for sure, he's been playing really well from what I've heard. Not just 'plodding along' but tearing it up. Whenever I've seen him he's looked quality and with Cabaye leaving, Pardew may see this as his time to prove himself, probably as second choice.

Ferguson is another definite, right now he is a good championship player which equates to being a decent squad player. He looked very exciting when he's played in black and white so I think this loan will have helped his development enough for him to be getting some gametime next season.

Campbell might be loaned out for another season but I think it's clear he has a future with the club, with Remy and De Jong possibly leaving the club at the end of the season and Shola probably only going to get a three year contract extension ( :( ) he might get given some more chances. He really needs to impress at St Mirren and so far, he's looking like he's trying his best to do just that.

Tavernier, Newton and Vuckic are getting to the age where they may have to accept they're not going to make it at the highest level. I think Tavernier looks good if a little easy to push off the ball but his flexibility and pace could make him a useful backup player, whether aged 22/23 he would be comfortable with that I don't know, it may be best for him to move on. I like Vuckic but he seems very 'average', capable of some canny blooters and generally solid but he doesn't really stand out as having a particular role to play for us. I can't really comment on Newton, he seems to be enjoying his time at St Mirren and is a local lad so may be happy continuing his long stay at the club as a reserve but if he has any ambition he'll leave us.

Amalfitano, I haven't made my mind up yet. He was brought in for depth and has since been loaned out to a very low level. He'll be 25 when he comes back and has shown no real signs of being a player we need. He was an odd signing in the first place and will probably be heading back to France.

I think Jonas will be away, he'll be into the last year of his contract next season, is on big wages and still holds some transfer value. I think we'll cash in on him in the summer, though he has been a loyal servant to the club, a 31 year old squad player will not be getting an extension.

Good is on a very long contract and plays in a position where we are ageing most, I think so long as he does okay at Dundee Utd he'll be on the bench next season.

Logan may have a bright future ahead of him but he seems to be having a bit of a bad time at Annan due to his injury. How he recovers from it is crucial for him because as a 19-year-old he is nearing 'make or break' time, with so much competition at the club in the midfield position.
