..........and we are beginning to look doomed. Our new two prong artillery equipment has been activated now for 270 minutes and has spectacularly failed during two crucial bellicose confrontations. How do we proceed now Captain with even stronger enemy forces looming on the horizon? Are there any other options available stat on the surface of Planet Football that could be beamed up? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-tAiQueaytM
Sky might be wrong like but apparently your 352 has gone up against a 442 in your last two league games. Fair do and apologies if that's incorrect but you should really be seeing off teams if they're gifting you an extra man in the middle of the park. Especially with the standard of those two teams, you've easily got a more capable midfield on paper.
So you're looking at the formations and the score and creating a picture in your head of how the game played? Also, you do realise, having 5 in midfield doesn't mean we have an extra player? We still have 11.
No, I'm asked a leading question so you can help me create a picture of how the games played. The OP was asking why your set up has failed. I know football is 11 a side yes. I never said you had an extra player did I? I said you had an extra player in the middle of the park providing the information given by sky was correct which I apologised for if it was incorrect. If it's wrong just say. Don't try and make me out to be an idiot. I think you'll find it's written underneath your name not mine.
The formation changes for attack/defence etc anyway. Reporters just pick a general formation and print that rather than looking more deeply.
Against Norwich we were well on top until James Chester went off injured and we had to swap to 4-4-2. Granted we did swap back to 3-5-2 far later on in the game and we were still diabolical. Against Palace, Chamakh was so deep all a&e you could have mistaken him for a centre half. They started 4-5-1 and then moved to 5-4-1. So we didn't really have an extra man in midfield.
I see. Is that somebody dropping someone back to form a back four when defending, forming a 442 or switching to 343 on the attack?
I thought it'd be common sense that if we are playing "352" with wing backs, it'd be a 352 when attacking and a "532" when defending.
It can be both and other variations too. Other managers have commented that a difficulty in playing us is dealing with the changes in formation. The players seem quite at home with it, unlike the media.
Yeah we've been forming banks of four in defence with Fig-Davies-Bruce-Chester (when all playing) which puts Chester in an unnatural RB position he is uncomfortable with. Against Chelsea this meant he was up against Hazard which was very difficult for him. We need to change formation IMO to wingers in front of the full backs to have more overlapping out wide and also better cover in defence. Brady coming back is very important as he has the ability to defend almost as well as he attacks. I believe that Aluko and Brady coming back will get us back to playing how we did at the start of the season. They are our two best creative attacking players remember.
Elmo playing the Wing back? He always looked like it would be his ideal position with us but was played on the wing or fullback. Didn't mind Elmo, Bruce didn't play him much but always thought he should have had a run in the team.
