I'll be cheering for the Seahawks as their punter is Jon Ryan, a Regina boy, and a good friend and former schoolmate of my son.

We would win if we all played by the same rules. We do not put our pros into tournaments like the olympics. Countries like Cuba put their "pros" in. THere is no doubt that a cuban team can beat our college players but there is a big difference between our top MLB players and the cuban team.

Didn't the US win Olympic gold for basketball in London? Wasn't that a group of NBA (professional) players?

Yea, its just our pro baseball players we dont put into turnaments.

We have a decent chance at hockey in the olympics but Canada and Russia are just far better than us. I give extra credit to Sweden due to their passing skills. I think we will miss out on any medals.

Colts fan myself, anyone know of any pubs staying open for the Superbowl? Student Union maybe?

Was in Manchester for it last year, demolished a plate of 50 chicken wings. Apparently that's the done thing.

I think the European hockey teams are more comitted to skill development at an early age, whereas young players here are groomed for junior hockey and the NHL where the smaller ice surfaces favor the more physical approach. Canada has selected faster and more skillful players for these Olympics so one hopes that they do well as anything less than gold will be seen as failure in many eyes.

Anything less than gold for Canada should be considered a failure. The Russians might get home field advantage and win because of that but Canada really is the top team. The Russian problem is their top players underperforming when it counts most. If I thought that Ovi or Semin etc would actually peform to their ability in the Olympics I would have them getting gold but we all know they will fail at the end.

There is a big difference between a Cuban "pro" and an American ones. Yanks don't put pros in the Olympics? All those basketball winning gold medallists were amateurs?

Though America are the reigning Olympic champions at rugby union.

We dont put pro baseball players in. We do put pro basketball players in like I said before. I am not sure why exactly. No one puts pro boxers into the olympics. Perhaps there is some olympic rules on why our baseball players cant be pro, I am not sure.

McKinney is north of Dallas, on the way to Okie-lahoma. Glad to hear you are getting around a bit. I meet so many Europeans whose image of the US is limited to NYC, DC, or LA, yet there is a greater variety to the American way of life than one sees in the media or experiences in the large coastal cities. Hell, even most folks in NY and LA don't understand what life is like in the midwest and south.

P.S. I hate the Cowboys. Rams fan here.

    Indeed.

We have some of these knuckle dragging buffoons on here who give it 'typical Yank' no matter what type of American person or event is presented to them.

    Apologies.

No worries. Many of my fellow Yanks are, indeed, insufferable ****ers. But that applies to any country. I know several Brits I cannot stand to be around. Often they go by "ManU supporters."
