The fact is that by the time FS sold we were in real danger of doing a Leeds. The debts were out of control and we may not have had a club to support. And why is it a farce just because he is a billionaire? We don't have a divine right to the rest of his money. The team has improved since the sale of AC, and I will be surprised and disappointed if this improvement does not continue now.

If I turn it on its head, what would you have had him realistically do?

Travelling with the Back Page, get dropped off near the ground and usually go straight in without a drink. No drinks allowed on the coaches either.

And that's the true irony for me of the Sports Direct policy and legacy he'll leave us with. With our stadium, our fanbase and potential for mass-market appeal (still massively untapped and woefully unexplored) if he'd just built some more on what had been good foundations, we could really have been a force in this league and a massively more profitable venture. I believe Tiote, Cabaye, Coloccini, Jose Enrique, Krul etc could have got us there with some actual f***ing effort on his part.

But it turns out he didn't have Arsenal as an ideal model at all, he had them lined up as someone we could be a feeder club for <laugh>

Oh well. He'll f*** off soon when the fans get bored of this utter bullshit.

Hey, Saints fan in peace here. I'm not going to lie, I headed over to your forum to rubberneck the meltdown I thought would be in full flow over this. Instead I was surprised to see the absolute resignation to losing Cabaye that you have had from the beginning. Basically what I'm trying to say is that it is pretty gutting to see that a club like Newcastle can't hold onto a player like Cabaye, and even more so that it's fans almost don't expect to anymore. Something needs sorting with the financial state of football.

I believe our debts were comparatively in proportion with all other clubs in the league at that time. Our £250 mill debt a drop in the ocean compared with Man Utd's, for example. Simply saying because Mike happened to be the one who stumped up the most money, earliest, makes him our saviour, is ridiculous in my view.

Of course it's a farce the way he dealt with our debt. It should be illegal to lend a company you own the money to pay off debt, and structure repayments to thereby secure yourself interest in that company beyond your span as owner. He wanted the debt gone to suit his own financially motivated agenda, not because we would be bankrupt. How many other owners in the entirety of the football league, who have come in and relieved debt, have done it his way? ZERO. It's dirty business tactics, albeit slightly less dirty than the way the Glaziers operated their takeover. If nothing else shows you how little his projected business model has to do with the success of the football club, it's the way he handled our debt.

If you look at our investment in comparison with every other club for the last few windows over the last 3 years, in only one would we actually make an appearance anywhere near a top spending list. We're the cheapskates of the premier league. Don't expect a five star meal, if you have to get a knife to jimmy your cylindrical block of "meat" from the Aldi home-brand tin...

    P.s
I do find it quite amusing that we've got to a state whereby a player, a chant about whom centres on there being a riot if he is sold, is sent packing, and we all meekly accept it, never-mind that some are now doing their level best impression of Morgan Freeman in the Shawshank Redemption #institutionalized

That's the saddest indictment about our level in football.

PSG have 10 French players in their first team squad, as do we. Hopefully we can readdress the balance once Cabaye goes.

I've said before, the policy of selling aint great short term but if that policy keeps us financially sound and allows us to see some top, top talent develop then things could be worse.
We also have a degree of stability at the club for the first time since SBR which is in stark contrast to a lot of teams.
Speaking of the great man he was a big advocate of the ethos that the club, as a living breathing entity is much bigger than any individual.
    Something we should never forget.

A Chelsea fan who's pretty much never attended a game. It's amazing how he becomes a fan of other teams, when upon buying the club it was widely reported that he wasn't actually much of a football fan at all, with a limited interest in the game itself.

Well they pretty much rubbished those reports later. I'm sure I read an article with Llambias who basically said he was a Chelsea fan but no longer. I think he also said he was a huge football fan and sports fan in general. The press just guess because they know very little about him as he has always been pretty reclusive.

To be fair to Detek there, if MA is a football fan, then yes, he is indeed a huge one.

Cabaye sale was always on the cards. Ashley only see's the £ sign and has no ambition for the club. Like the mackems we should have been trying for a cup instead we are selling one of our best players.
