http://www.safc.com/news/club-news/2014/january/club-statement-on-di-canio Club Statement Published: 27 January, 2014 by Sunderland AFC Statement for Sunderland AFC. Sunderland AFC would like to express itsâ disappointment in relation to the disparaging comments made recently by Paolo Di Canio, regarding the club and its players. The club is immensely proud of its players for the dignified and restrained manner in which they have conducted themselves publicly since Mr Di Canioâs departure and it is particularly disappointing to read such comments when there are legal obligations in place to ensure such behaviour does not occur. The club is now considering its position with its legal representatives. Having reached a cup final for the first time in 22 years, whilst also enjoying a run of only one loss in 12 games, we want to focus on what is a positive time for the football club and we would hope it is possible to draw a line under this matter quickly and that there will be no repetition. Neither the club, head coach Gus Poyet nor the players will be making any further comment on the situation. We are looking forward, not back and are focusing on the vital games we have ahead of us.
Brilliant statement that. Punks the **** out of him 'Yeah, look what we did without you...', goes on to more or less say 'we are past giving a **** about you, frankly'. Excellent. Love PR me, love it.
There is no legal stand point. We'll lose. Numerous players have discussed the PDC situation long before he broke his silence. Proceeding won't even begin but if they did I'm sure it will be thrown out as wasting time. Thy're all as bed as each other. Screw whatever PDC says, he's **** all to us now. But would have liked the players to have been looking forward and not back. Wonder why the club have taken no proceedings at Bruce's constant slander regarding this club and it's fans? Would be because he blames us fans and that's ok with the club it seems? Very disappointed with this news. Tit for tat is for message boards not football clubs, ex staff and club players. Everyone involved needs to grow the **** up and move on imo. What now? Another PDC interview with him being a dickhead. The club releasing another statement in retort. When does it end? It's boring and taking the shine off a very entertaining season.
The last thing they want to do is wash our dirty washing in a court. No matter how good your case everybody gets to see your skidmarks.
Excellent statement from the club. I'm sure there was an article posted on here over the weekend in which he was referred to as a "man-child". Pretty accurate description that.
At least the Club has forced John 'O ****e to keep his gob shut. PDC may be spouting ATM but I'd be a bit pissed too after John's public comments.
I think from a legal stance the club would have a strong case. The legal agreements in place will be between PDC and SAFC's management. The players will not be tied to any such agreement providing they have not been asked to speak on behalf of the management. However, I feel it's a clever move by the exec to ensure PDC and players shut up, move on and focus on their own futures.
So it looks like PDC and the club sorted things out with a Settlement Agreement (were called Compromise Agreements until September last year). In an Agreement there is a financial compensation for loss of office and the first £30,000 ifs free of tax. The Agreements also contain clauses about keeping the issues confidential and that neither party can slag the other side off, or even cause others to do so. Any breach of such an agreement can result in all of the money being paid back. Many Agreements actually write in the level of repayment require for different types of breaches. Others just leave it up to the court to decide on how much will be repaid. So I think PDC could well end up giving all of his compensation back to the club.
Apparently there's still a legal case going on between PDC and the club. PDC has chosen to take interviews and make statements that could potentially diminish his legal position. The club have come out with a bland inoffensive statement, keeping strictly to the few facts already in the public domain. I used the word dignity, or lack of, in his recent statements to the press in an earlier thread. It's a shame really because while he may or may not have the qualities to be a successful manager I do think he's still got a lot to give to football in some capacity. I just dont see it happening while he's on the offensive in the press.
If the separation agreement had a nondisclosure condition then our Sue...PDC... can be taken to court and at least part if not all of his settlement reclaimed. However I suspect this is just sticking a rocket up his jacksy. Bruce didn't really say much in complaining about his time with us, he just had a wee tantrum..as he does.
Well said. The club had to say something and they've kept it nice and succinct. Whatever players say is surely separate to the clubs agreement with pdc, so would have no bearing on this, legally.
I have nothing further to add concerning the useless waste of ****ing embarrassing space that is Paolo di Canio. Hes a **** and thats my final word.
Doesn't make himself look any better to future employers either. We don't need to be dragged back into all this. He's digging his own hole, the club should let him crack on and ignore the ****er I say.
