... quite a satisfying afternoon, all told.

Up against a very good lower league team, with nowt to lose and everything to gain, with Brownie desperate to prove a point (no matter how hard he might deny it!) on a sticky pitch in pouring rain.

    A 2-0 victory.

Matty Fryatt proves, as many of us have always suspected, that he can be an excellent back-up striker for us.

Robbie Brady comes on and looks the best player on the park by a country mile.

I'll have a bit of that!

Matty did OK, I cant understand the ****fest from everyone.
he had his chance to show how good he was in the championship, and well, he stuttered.
he is nowhere near PL quality.
we are in a relegation dogfight this season - the last thing we need is to pick him cos of sentiment.
he played well with League 2 opposition.. he couldn't do championship, he is better than league 2, so that means he is league 1 at best.

And some want him to start a PL match?

    <laugh>

Yeah, not like he scored 9 goals from when he signed in January, then went on to score 16 goals the following season for us or anything...

25 goals in 72 Championship appearances suggests two things:

    1. He has proved himself at Championship level.

    2. Some people will trot out any old unfounded ****e in order to make sure they get an argument with someone they perceive not to like on a message board.

League One at best? Seriously mate, give yer head a shake.

Agree with you on all that. Brady looked really up for it. Just too short a time on the pitch to be in my MOM three though.

Patty just seems to dislike him, even if he was as good as Messi, Patty would probably say he's ****.

Like Adrock said, "Arguing with Patty is like playing chess with a pigeon. No matter how good you are at chess, the pigeon is just going to knock over the pieces, crap on the board and strut around like it's victorious."

Two excellent finishes from him today; any PL striker worth his salt would've been delighted with the second one.

Very good win today, could have been a struggle. It wasn't too long a go when Southend was seen as a tough fixture for us with Freddie Eastwood up front for them.

On another note, how was Brady for anybody that went?(Macca?)

he injected that pace we was lacking for the majority of the game. Sadly he couldn't show it properly as the pitch was horrific and the heavens opened (i'm drenched to the bone as i type this on my mobile)

looked very promising though. it was southend though as well we must remember

Second was a bloody wonder goal, no matter what level team you score it against, didn't he pick the ball up at about the half way line? reminded me of his hat trick goal against Barnsley a year or two ago.

Good day out that, loved all the old songs coming out. Got bloody drenched the second I set foot out the ground though, got me socks over the heaters in the car to dry <laugh>

Didn't go obviously but had a good stream. Brady looked excellent. Almost scored as soon as he came on and made several great runs into the box to shoot on goal. Looked back to his pre-injury form to me. He and Quinnie combined well as always.

Brady should have done better with that chance right at the death I must say. Very soft shot straight at the keeper. He looked his usual self though, full of energy and confident with the ball. If we can get him back to form he'll be a huge boost to us.

...Job done. Through to the next round without having to play an extra game/replay. Fryatt showing form that made him our top scorer for two championship seasons on the trot. Unless the goalposts are in a different place the premiership, he could part of the solution to our problems.

We have a striker who looks confident and is scoring goals. What's not to like.

You're wasting your time, Caveman. I already presented him with the hard facts a bit earlier and he's still bleating.

    Sad to see, really.
