gfclukey - I appreciate your opposite views, as you say, makes good debate. I also posted on Lee's site and my views were even more cutting being posted at a later time and built on my original.

Yes, Harriman being moved up is certainly a positive.

Seriously though can someone confirm for me please, who played the excellent through ball for Cody's goal?...my failing eyes couldn't make out on the big screen, some would say probably explains much my reasoning on the game lol

Agree with everything you say there gfclukey. I thought Linganzi looked really confident after the first 10 mins but was properly not match fit hence the substitution. Dack and Bayo made a big difference when they came on and Dack proving once again he is much more affective when he comes on as a sub.

BRB ***an played the through ball for Cody. With a bit more luck and composure we could have got an excellent draw against a team who have now won 14 and drawn 2 of their last 16 games and have a wealthy financial backer behind them.

sorry brb . U r wrong about yesterday performance as you are only looking at the young players who did not play. Gills did play well against a team who had won 8 games in a row at home and unbeaten in 15 matches. Did you or any Gills supporters really expect any points yesterday. This performance was a 9 out of ten compared with Colchester which was 2 out of ten. Did Hessy and Dack both play in that game?
Yes i do agree with you about Hessy and Dack given more games but sometimes you have to make changes to the side, and again Taylor was not negative when he had Dack, Akin ,Cody and Marriett on at the same time.

I have got a foot in both camps here, I thought we played well up to a point. Brentford are clearly a decent side and with exception of Nelson I am not sure any of our players would get in their team, and I thought that we played well when we had the ball, the passing and movement were better than in recent matches that I have seen, but the defending was poor, very committed but far too many last ditch challenges and people having throw themselves in the way which looks good but is actually a sign that we are being cut open to easily and as BRB says when Nelson is everyones man of the match then he is clearly having to make too many saves. We had chances and at 2-1 could have equalised but equally they could have added more to their tally too.

gioblues - fair points but as i see it PT only applied the positive tactics within the last 30 minutes, while his starting tactics applied the usual boring and negative shut up shop tactics, with the exception of the first 5 to 8 minutes.

Due to my comments I received a PM kindly directing me to an article in the Kent Messenger not available on line. Foolishly i accidently deleted it. But it appears that PT is looking to build a young squad, appearing to voice my same opinions that is where the future lay. However, in the meantime, he is having to apply tactics with what is available to secure our L1 status. Now i might have some of this wrong, I don't have the article myself but that is my interpretation of it.

So far this season we have conceded 47 goals, none of the bottom four have conceded this many, we are third/fourth worst in the league for goals against (Crewe 54, Tranmere, Notts County 48). I've voiced my reasons for this and still PT does not act, the same as MA didn't change it, with the exception of resting Legge for a while. In my opinion Legge was not the problem.

Anyone can chuck ten men behind the ball and say we put up a fight. Weston was poor, Barrett played rugby...yeah he chucked his body on the line and blocked shots but you can get any CB to do that for you, that is their bread and butter job.

Cody should have buried one and only scored due to a superb spine breaking ball by ***an.

Yes, it was better than Colchester i agree by far, but it certainly could not have been any worse. MA built us a pile of rubbish, that's not PT's fault but surely it was not such a bad side, that he can't apply a selection with the ability to play for an entire 90 mins in a positive manner and with ability, that dosen't include a headless chicken loose on the wing (Weston), that dosen't include a CB with the turning circle of a steam roller, grappling all over the opposition. I could run a bull through a china shop with more discreation than that (exaggeration).

As i say why change a winning team to a losing one, does he not have faith in Hessy, he went there with negative tactics that's why he didn't play him. Yet he sticks with a defense that leaks more goals than a sieve and one where Nelson is a nailed on MOM every game. Just my opinion, no offence intended and only applying arguable debate.

This is how I rated the players from the comfort of my sofa
Nelson 8 A quality game from Englands number 1

Hewitt 8 Good game from him ,and can't see him being moved from this position

Legge 8 I thought Leon had as good a game as he's had in quite a while

Barrett 6 I would have given him more if he wasn't so blatant at giving away the penalty.Alright sometimes defenders get away with it, but that was beyond belief

Martin 7 I thought he got caught out a lot especially ball watching. I think we need another left back as good as Hewitt on the right

Harriman 7 reasonable game but no real decent runs , conditions maybe against him.

Linganzi 7 Thought he did OK til he tired

Gregory 7 Did OK but a bit of an up and down performance. Some mistakes but generally very tidy

Weston 2 And thats for turning up. A one trick pony who's tricks don't often come off. A waste of space

***an 7 He's now starting to show glimpses of class, and will only get better the more he plays

Cody 6 I thought he drifted in and out of the game, and should have scored early on, when it might have changed the course of the game. But once again he comes up with a goal when Bayo is on the pitch

Akinfenwa 7. Him and ***an should have a half each. He's a big lump but his flick ons are sublime and Cody does benefit from him

Dack 7 Replaced Linganzi and did quite a effective job

Referee Stroud 7 Had a good game but a mistake by giving the corner that led to their first goal. He couldn't see it clearly so when in doubt those decisions should go to the defense and not the home team.

I think we played really well on friday quite frankly, much better than the Wolverhampton performance which we won. Brentford are a very good side on a very good run. I have no doubt they will go up. We pressed and made chances, pretty much every player dug in deep for the performance, its just a shame that Barrett was playing. 2 mistakes equalled two goals. He wasn't even aware that Douglas had broken into the box for the 1st goal when he was the closest man, and then decided to audition as The Rock or John Cena by wrestling the guy down for a penalty. It appears that he's obviously looking for a career move into Wrestling as he tries this pretty much every game!

He made some great blocks, but so did Hewitt and Legge. Its his job as a defender to DEFEND the goal. So why bother to give them two free goals? I don't care if he's the captain, he's out of his depth in League One. I questioned his signing especially when the Bournemouth fans were happy to get rid of him. They're quite happily playing Championship football now. PT do us a favour and play Davies please.

Spot on Peg-Leg, we have been carrying Barrett for a considerable amount of time now and he simply has to be dropped. To be honest, I actually blamed Nelson for the first goal, I was at the front of the top tier so had a pretty perfect view and I would certainly expect my keeper to come for a ball in the 6 yeard box, having said that you're right, Douglas should never have been free in the area.
The second goal mind, even though it was at the other end of the pitch it was the moast blatent drag i've ever seen. As soon as the pen was given the bloke behind me said 'well he had that coming' which is right, every single game Barrett pulls people over so it was a matter of time. The only reason he did it was because his marker left him for dead, so if we had someone who could actually mark, we could have nicked a point.

In regards to the overall performance, from my point of view I was happy, we played as well as we could have against a strong side, i was panicked that we might put in the type of performace we did at Colchester.

PT did annoy me again however, his subs are bizarre, not so much who he brings on but he always seems to take influential players off. I was shocked to see Linganzi was starting, however he was quality, my friends (non gills fans) who were watching the game kept texting me saying who is this absolute beast, he's brilliant etc. Then Taylor drags him, absolutely crazy.

I havent seen if anyone has answered you above BRB, but it was ***ans through ball after a Bayo lay off. The 3 pronged attack that was mentioned in the Colchester programme as being dangerous actully was on Friday night, as opposed to being useless there.

Actually i've just watched the highlights and the first goal was also definitely Barretts fault, the second was also even more horrifc then i initially thought, we had 3 men on the line what was he thinking!!
