Away from all the transfer disappointment blah blah, what do people think about the troops being given Olympic tickets.

I was at work earlier today and it was on the radio and they were having a discussion about it. When I first heard it, I thought yeah, good idea, but then people started ringing in...

The general public opinion was that they shouldn't be given special treatment over tickets. This I have come to agree with.

It's their job, a career choice of their own and they know the consequences and what it includes. They get paid for it, and whilst it's a fantastic job, they still get special treatment when on leave, discounted prices at businesses for example. However the Olympics is for everyone, they can afford tickets, and get a special chance of getting tickets. This I believe is unfair, what about everyone else? It's basically saying that we made the wrong career choice by not joining the army. Everyone should have equal opportunity. This was the general consensus on the radio as well.

I am in no way having a go at Soldiers, I admire them greatly. One former member of the army came on and said that the soldiers have it easy compared to previous forces. Protection is better he said, and they go away for months, not years like previous soldiers. He admired the job they did, but doesn't believe they should get special treatment for the Olympics. I don't know the exact figure, but is 10,000 tickets right? That's a lot of people missing out who are more likely more interested in the Olympics.

It's just my opinion, what's yours?

I would rather them have better pay, better kit and be in fewer wars.

Agreed entirely. Utmost respect for the forces but don't see why they would get special treatment for something like this. It always annoys me when you get a story in the paper about them being refused booze when a pubs not accepted Army ID, I've got a public sector ID card too and I wouldn't expect anywhere to accept that either. That feels overly negative, but when everyones underpaid, pensions are getting slashed etc theres no reason why anyone should get any preference for Olympic tickets due to where they work.

There is widespread condemnation of the whole ticketing process for the Olympics and it's been made a mockery of.

I live just outside London and we applied for 3 tickets for 5 different events in varying sports.

    Not one did we get.

I had a call from an events agency asking me if I was interested in tickets for the company. I asked about availability fore the events I'd initially wanted to attend and they have hundreds available but they are only for the corporate market.

I've procured some tickets to the gymnastics for miniOT through a company in Germany who use a first serve basis.

I respect the troops and the vocation they chose but the Olympics are an event for the country which is already faltering due to it's veering towards corporate guests instead of fans.

Who gets pleasure out of the Olympics anyway? It always confuses me, I just don't get it.

As someone who's opposed to our current wars for oil etc, I don't support this.
