Doubt we'd sell for less than 30m to another prem team. He's been fantastic this season but that would be too good to turn down.

You're right, we couldn't turn that sort of money down.

I personally don't understand pessimism about transfers. In CY2013 the club brought in 6 permanent signings and 1 loan. In the same period, I believe we only let 2 players leave permanently (Simpson/Perch) - I fully expect us to bring in at least five this year, and knowing the French one of them will certainly be Cabella, a very highly rated player. It has got to be assumed that if we can get the commercials down De Jong will also come in. Then there's strong rumours of Siem De Jong also moving on. Finally, Cabaye has made no noises about leaving anymore. I think Pards has managed him extremely well, he just wants to be the main man and the whispering from Newcastle is that we're about as big a club he's going to get in terms of being a guaranteed starter.

It looks good - as long as you don't look at the rest of football and consider it dead through Oil money.....

Not sure on us getting another five in but otherwise agreed. That said, I don't think we really NEED that many signings, unless we qualify for Europe.

Vuckic and Tavernier will be coming back next month, unless their loans get extended again so that helps us in terms of depth. Not superstar signings by any stretch but both capable at covering CM/AM/ST and RB/CB respectively and if we don't use our youngsters to plug the gaps in our squad then what's the point in us having an academy?

The way we are running things at the moment is great, bringing in good players and only selling them for big money. They all seem pretty settled, shockingly even Hatem Ben Arftime so we are in a strong position to resist bids. I'd rather see one of the kids being given a chance than us signing a £15m+ 'superstar' looking for a platform.

We could all be under estimating how many new players we will need prior to next season.

Off the top of my head.

    Strikers
    Shola - out of contract
Remy - probably wont sign for us
    Cisse - looking to offload

    Midfield
Cabaye - will probably be sold
    Gosling - will go
Jonas - wont return from loan
    Marveaux - looking to offload
    Obertan - looking to offload
Ben Arfa - 12 months left on contract in the summer, needs to sign new one or will be sold

    Defence
Colo - will he be gone
Saylor - are we looking to offload

    Keeper
Need a new back-up keeper instead of Elliot

I don't think for one minute that we will have to replace half the squad, but there is a lot of players that could potentially leave and that's without the unforeseen happening. We need to get moving on bringing in replacements in this window or at least get players sort out contracts for HBA.
The players out on loan such as Campbell may fill part of the gap, but some are never going to make it the PL and heaven forbid we have to rely on them.

Show me I'm wrong and I'll happily accept that everything is rosy, but, I can see a problem creeping up fast.
