‘We never stated we were going to win the league — but we needed to be in the conversation.’
Read the lines above it Gerrez . Nice try though. Also is saying we need to be in the conversation not saying you're going to challange ? Asked if winning the title was still possible, Rodgers said: ‘Absolutely. We came into the match with 18 games to go — nine at home and nine away. 'Seven of those away games are against teams in the bottom half. That doesn’t mean they are “gimmes” but we’ve shown enough that we’re going to be challenging and that’s all we ever wanted.
A manager has to be positive. He can't say we have no chance, we are always going to aim as high as possible and we do have a (albeit, very slim) chance of winning the league. Being in the 'conversation' means being at the top end of the table IMO, not challenging for the title. It wouldn't surprise if Brod said we can win the league after his comments about second last year but he simply hasn't said any such thing, yet
He clearly says you are challenging You asked for a quote and a gave you one Honestly though, I don't see any problem with him saying it at all. At the end of the day you ARE challenging for it so what's the problem with him stating the obvious ?
He has been making a rod for his own back. Tikitaka said "he is challenging", he can "remain in the title conversation", he is "not happy with only going for 4th place" and many other quotes. And yet this scouser persists in saying that he has never said he can win the title. No wonder they are considered deluded and ******ed
Another thread about MUFC suddenly turning into an anti-Liverpool diatribe? How depressingly predictable. Back on topic: I think it's clear to see that Man Utd, like Liverpool, are clearly lacking in certain areas on the pitch. You do need some investment in quality players. Mata will be a very good start, especially when Rooney and RVP are back in the side. However, to challenge for the title, I'd say you'd need at least another 2-3 players.
Never mind lads, you're caught in a bind that you can't influence and there's now't that you can do about it. United remind me of the Ancient Mariner: Water water everywhere and not a drop to drink Water water everywhere and all the boards did shrink Does it really matter that you've dropped out of the Rich Club listing? Not really. As others have said above the Forbes listing is of more significance - and even that is fatally flawed! Your problem lies with you owners, their situation and the effect of their feeling on your share listing. From the little I read about it there are games and power plays going on amongst the family as to how best to secure their individual positions when Big Daddy (for those who remember Cat On A Hot Tin Roof) finally coughs his clogs. You already know that United are a profitable bauble in their portfolio but would be sacrificed in a heartbeat to secure the empires continued existence. Whilst all this is going on you bleed and appear not to get the support you need. Worst part is there's bugger all you can do to influence it! If your owners were truly concerned about the club (rather than what it represents financially to them) then they would be coming out with strong words of support. From this standpoint the silence is deafening. Before Christian pours out his bile. Yes it does give me some pleasure watching what is happening to United. I won't lie. But to the majority of you as football supporters I feel for you as far as your owners are concerned. They could, perhaps should, do more.
It does not surprise me that they are f**king silent. For them the only important thing is money and how much of it they can make from the club. They will weigh up whether the money they invest in new players will increase the value of the club. If that is the case they will put their hands in their pockets if not they will tell Moyes to f**k off. Greedy f**king yank gits...
That doesn’t mean they are “gimmes” but we’ve shown enough that we’re going to be challenging and that’s all we ever wanted. Thought that line was pretty obvious to be fair He was responding to a question about whether you are challenging for the league (which you are doing)
United make enough £££ to have the cash to bid for the worlds best players but lets face it, United fans were busy slating City for spending huge sums as well as Chelsea. There was a manc pride in winning all those trophies without spending vast sums. Now that Fergie has gone it's "because we didn't spend" Ah sweet irony.
It's in the Daily Mail and they suggest what the question was. I only ever pay attention to the quotes and I don't trust any newspaper to report things accurately. If he said it in that way then fair.
Weren't saying that when you were slating City for spending money, as soon as the wheels fall off spending money is now a good thing where as before it was a bad thing, buying the league ect ect. Double standards much
You will find he was saying ££££ use a sugar daddy, UTD use what it has made. Very big difference
Wrong! Your owners take what United has made leaving only a little behind - and a shed load of debt as well.
Totally in agreement with your remarks about Mata etc. As for the Glazers - overseas investors are only concerned with football as a source of revenue. That's why 'investors'. Their takeover was particularly without merit, however, and succeeded despite protests, as expected. With millions now being wiped off the shares value, they are now in desperation mode, paying top dollar to appease the market and restore confidence in Untd.
That is why the fall in value of United is GOOD for the team. These f**kers will only believe in money. They have no interest in United except for their value as a cash cow. Fergie managed to keep the value without spending like Chelsea and City. That era is gone. No spending= United slide, and the brand goes down together with value of the shares. Wake up and smell the coffee !!!
The only way it could be a good thing for the club f the share price continues to go down, would be if there was some English financier (and Untd supporter) standing by and willing to buy a controlling interest. That is highly unlikely, since the shares are not on the market and the Glazers want to retain control. No supporter should want to witness club stock on a downward spiral, as I'm sure you would agree.
