Southampton FC Chairman Katharina Liebherr said:

"I am delighted that Gareth has agreed to step into this role. After the events of the past week, my priority has been to bring stability to the management of the Club and I am pleased that we have been able to make this appointment from within. We had a very positive meeting with all the staff of the Club on Monday and I am sure Gareth's appointment will be warmly received.”

    Gareth Rogers said:

“I am very pleased to be able help the club by stepping up to the CEO’s job on an interim basis. We have a fantastic staff and everyone is working together to make sure the club ends the season as strongly as possible.”

All the best to Gareth in the mean time, seems very well qualified on the business side of things.

Feel free to merge this into the Chief Executive thread at a later date, just wanted to flag this up in the meantime.

It says interim, so not a permanent move.

Could this mean that Williams is the long term replacement but has a notice period to serve which we are unwilling to buy out or his current employers are unwilling to move on.

Good luck to Gareth Rodgers either way.

Talk of John Williams was either wide of the mark or premature, then?

He's obviously being considered. Not available until the summer perhaps? Or they want to look at others?

When I went to type my first post I also spelt it Rodgers! I was beaten to the post so didn't send it.

I think it's quite possible that Williams is joining in the summer, but can't just walk out on the PGMOL.

We obviously can't comment on him potentially joining our club, what with his current position.

Either that or we are being sold by the summer.

Wouldn't surprise me if Mike Riley told him he couldn't leave before the end of the season.

Nor me. He will probably have to serve his notice. I don't recall or find any other chairmen of PGMOL having left the organisation mid-season. Obviously SFC can't comment on Williams and his future and vice versa due to his position.

To me, it seems a very sensible move by Katharina. It is a key position, and she knows she needs to get this appointment right. Appointing Rogers, who seems very competent, will give her more time to conduct an extensive search for the right candidate. It may still be Williams, who knows, but this way the Club can continue to function properly with a guy who already knows how it works, and can start straight away.

Who knows, Rogers may impress enough to get the job permanently in the summer. Sensible move me thinks :)

Our loss, never mind, there may be another chance, this is Interim after all.

Aslong as they have the clubs best interests at heart I don't mind who has it.
