How short memories are. Without him we'd be out of the league cup undoubtedly. He has been instrumental in some very big performances for us and also Poyet was quoted saying something along the lines of "not having the words to describe his importance" he has 3 years to run at least. And Cokback has only 5 months. Are this sentinel paper reliable? Or is it just mire journo crap? Imo he should be kept. His game has improved beyond recognition. His yellow on Saturday, had it been Larsson, would've been "taking one for the team" as it was Cattermole it us deemed reckless. Goes to show how people only remember bad bits of his game
Swapping a proven premiership midfielder for an unproven championship midfielder sounds like madness in the middle of a relegation battle. Bridcutt can't be that expensive surely we could have both.
Hmmm if we sell Catts bear in mind that Ki and Colback will also be gone at the end of the season as will Larsson and Gardner. Bridcutts gonna be on his own.
Fair play he has put in some fantastic performances this season and his game has been improved But that yellow on saturday was just idiotic, he lost the ball and lost his composure, admittedly in the grand scheme of things it was probably a good foul for the team but he was the one who created the problem also Thought he looked drunk on Saturday tbh, and I heard similar things about the Villa game
Hi mate, I can uderstand and am sypathetic to your point of view. However I just don't think he's a good enough footballer to fit into Poyet's style of play. His basic skills (passing, trapping the ball etc) aren't up to scratch in my opinion. And although his discipline has improved he is the type of player who will always let you down. Consistent injuries are another bug problem (although granted this seems to be improved this season)
All about opinions - Mine are strong on Cattermole - in the first half on Saturday he only really made one mistake which led to the yellow - but, as I said, he took one for the team. I think his passing is very under-rated - I remember a game earlier this season where people were saying "He gave the ball away on x minutes" but he'd played 3 30-40 yard passes in the same game which no-one remembered - he's one of those that the negative is always at the front of the mind and the positive is completely forgotten about. On Saturday he was doing the job of 2 people due to Larsson's errrr.... uselessness. Larsson was supposed to be alongside him and he spent all of his time on the halfway line pointing and shouting (a dance now known as "The Larsson") Cattermole was covering sometimes 3 attacking midfielders running with the ball and had very little support. I actually thought Ki had his worst game for us - good work in the goal but prior to that he gave the ball away a lot - almost as much as Catts against Villa - but no-one got on his back at all - yet Cattermole gave the ball away twice against Villa and the whole crowd turned on him. Just shows the mentality. As we say - we all have our own opinions and I respect everyones - and it's good to have healthy debate rather than fans simply slating each other for differing opinions.
This and then some. He has no confidence with the ball at all, 'hot potato' passing when he has acres of space and time, and a lot of the time he isn't aware of the threat around him or around the players he passes to. His only positive for me is his intimidating factor to those who don't like getting knocked in a tackle, which is becoming a rarity, as his defensive position see's him backing off more than closing down. I like Ki playing deep and pushing forward, but the likes of Larsson and Colback (although, I think he's improved a lot since last season) are too defensive minded to supply forwards and push the play forward, so we need a central aggressive midfielder (like a Wilshere or Mata) desperately. Haven't seen this Bridcutt in action so I can't comment, but it does seem Gus is building from the back, but I hope his game is more than defensive.
We often have differing opinions mate, but on this we are in agreement. I deliberately don't argue any more with the Catts haters and their he made this or that mistake and totally ignore all the good he did.
I think for me the bottom line is he has not played enough. I fear that another injury could put him out for a long time again and with that in mind along with his suspension problems maybe its the right time. Having said that he does compliment Ki in the midfield and its going to be a brave man who replaces him with a championship player. We have seen Gus make a superb signing in Alonso and turn the club round from the brink. Whatever happens I trust Gus and think he will do the right thing for the club.

BRIGHTON AND HOVE ALBION assistant manager Nathan Jones believes negotiations with Sunderland over wantaway midfielder Liam Bridcutt will 'evolve' over the next 72 hours. Bridcutt was once again absent from the Seagulls' squad for the 0-0 draw at Burnley, and is understood to be a target for his old manager Gus Poyet at Sunderland. The Seagulls rejected Bridcutt's transfer request earlier this month as Friday's transfer window deadline looms ever closer. ''Those things will evolve in the next 72 hours,'' Jones explained. ''We're fantastically proud of our squad and the players we have. Things are ongoing with certain elements in terms of strengthening the squad and trying to hold on to our players.''
