    Army driving course.

If memory serves me right we couldn't get into anywhere due being Bill Oddie's.

Ended up in some dive full of birds who looked like blokes.

I used to live in Basingstoke, Martine's was the skankiest (and only) nightclub in town.

Think it was the Nightjar, or was it Magnums?

12 years since I left. It's come on apparently. Still better than Stoke.

The boozer I'm thinking of was in a precinct or something similar if memory serves me right.

Neither name rings a bell but it was New Years night in 1993.

I did well to remember Martines.

I don't think Mourinho was ever on the short list. He's a Chelsea man for a start, but the main reason being yet will be looking for long term commitment and stability which Moyes will deliver. Mourinho would go for a year or two then pop off to the next big job, I don't really see Man U as a club that would jump on the managerial merry go round.

Though no I doubt they'd be doing a great deal better with Mourinho. Chelsea have arguably the best squad in the division, well not far behind Man City anyway, but they've been patchy so far this season. That's a club where everyone from players to tea lady is used to having a different man at the helm each season. As another poster pointed out, at Manchester the whole club itself is undergoing a period of transition.

Moyes does also need to adjust though, he's been used to competing on a tiny budget for a club like Everton, he's made them successful by building a solid team, developing players and having them poached once they turn good. And Manchester he has one of the biggest bidets in world football at his disposal, a club with pedigree and aspirations to attract (and already in ownership of some of) the worlds best talent, and an expectant fan base who will be expecting a high quality brand of attacking football.

It's sort of like how Wenger likes to bring new or young midfielders through by starting and developing them in the disciplined holding midfield role before letting them lose in the more advanced 'number 10' type role. Moyes is taking that step and getting to grips with being a number 10 rather than a number 8. He's a good manager, a top bloke and a real hard worker. He'll get there soon enough and have a long managerial career at Manchester in sure of it.

That's my take on it anyway, but I'm not a Man U fan, they've been spoiled rotten over the last 20 or so years and some nasty man just stole their favourite toy in the summer, they're not used to it. My lasses sisters fella is a Man U fan, he claims not to be plastic because he supported them since he was 8, I soon put him straight. He's been describing this season as a disaster so far and said it will be a catastrophe if they don't make the top 4, I told him about the great escape season under Joyce, being locked out the ground by Lloyd, throwing money in the buckets to pay the players wages, not even being able to afford to replace the letters at booth ferry park, that's a catastrophe I told him, Man U are just having a blip through a transitional phase, and that drove the nail home, he's shut up whinging about it after that thank ****.

The bottom line is, Man U fans don't know the meaning of hard times regarding football anymore, most the plastics I know or that I've got on Facebook were calling for Moyes' head before last season even finished. Says it all really. I'd wish they could do a Leeds but with the resources at their disposal, that's unrealistic sadly.

If you look at Man United's squad, do they deserve to be much higher than where they are? The likes of Man Hunter, Chelsea, Arsenal, Tottenham and dare I say Liverpool all have better sides than them. So is Moyes doing a particularly bad job?

The daft **** paid £20 odd million for Fellaini and has by all accounts fallen out with the his( and the PL's) top marksman.

He's also made them even more disliked by getting his players to dive all over the shop.

I'd say he's doing a marvellous job but then again I would say that.

    I hate Man U.

    That's right Man U.

Proper Mancs hate them being called that.

This is why United get on my tits (one of the reasons), they blame the likes of Man City for upping transfer fees yet:-

    Ferdinand - £29m - Kompany - £6m

    Rooney - £30m - Negredo - £16.4m

    Toure - £24m - Fellaini - £28m

    Navas - £14.9m - Zaha - £15m

Playing devil's advocate though. Ferdinand has been there for 12 years and Rooney for 10 years. If they'd signed players of that standard for £12M every 4 years and let them go at the end of their contracts nobody would be saying anything but they'd have spent more by now than they have. Fellaini and Zaha have both come after Man City started inflating prices. Do you see Man City retaining those players for 10 years or more?

It was always going to be a tough ask for whoever took over. SAF knew what he was doing by going last summer as he knew that MU needed major surgery. MU fans will have to get used to a few seasons of struggle (by there terms) until the squad has been rebuilt.

I can go with that, but the prices they paid 12 & 10 years ago were highly inflated. What would the equivalent fees be today? There were also players like Veron £28m who they made a massive loss on.

    Playing Devil's Advocate sounds dirty.
