agree with you stick et al --cue card surely wont be going GC--makes nay sense--my problem with most ante post is guessing the races--thats why i suppose people go for the 'certs' Big B-Da Fly , Bobs Worth-- i did a big(for me) ante post bet one year--never again--feels like paying a fine! --i do get the anticipation /value buzz-- but if it goes wrong-...... i am prepared to wait for the weather situation to become clearer, and runners--i suppose NRNB is insurance--but then the price is adjusted accordingly- i have a couple of small bets at big prices on Harry Topper--be suprised if he lines up tbh....
I will try and find out some information. A friend of mine rides out at the Tizzards, not sure how privy to any whispers she will be. I will ask the question though.
Cheers Ron Not been able to get on so far this NH season. New job so access again. Looking forward to the festival, going to the Gold Cup day this year. Treating the old man again after he had plenty of success after backing Briar Hill when we went last year.
Yeah I really liked Felix Yongers win over Defy Logic, I was quite taken by that, but not been massively impressed since, although the ground hasnt been great. Dodging Bullets' win over Raya Star and then Grandouet cemented his position in my mind that he will be bang there in the Arkle. I was hoping that FY might go over further at Cheltenham but its not looking likely now, and there isn't much between these two IMO, I just side with DB
Seriously Dodging Bullets has impressed me- has hardly put a foot wrong. But I just can't see him winning a 2mile top level Championship Race at Cheltenham over fences, especially being flat bred. I think it would be great if he did, but suspect there are one or two who might be better suited than him on the day.
To be honest Ste usually I have a few in mind and an idea of what is shaping up for a lot of the events but this year I'm left quite puzzled so I don't have anything. If I knew he was going to go this route then I am very, very interested in AL FEROF for the Gold Cup. There is something about the way he travels around Cheltenham that is asking to be backed. I think the King George and right-handed track just didn't suit him, and I also think he has more stamina than Cue Card, and the ability to go with him (having beaten him in the Supreme Novice and looking good to do so again prior to a bad error in the Arkle). With Conti 2nd fav for the GC though, he might head the Ryanair route. If you play then play NRNB (and check the full t&c's!!) I have absolutely no idea about the Supreme Novice and will play on the day, and I am not really sure where I think the Mullins runners will go- he has a number who could run in the Supreme/Neptune/Albert Bartlett. Faugheen has already run at 3m, and Briar Hill at 2m 4f only, so I would not necessarily buy the idea that Briar Hill is a plodder because Mullins reckons he has speed on fast ground, so I'd probably play NRNB on Faugheen in the Albert Bartlett and Briar Hill in the Neptune. Not many British novices have impressed me. One thing I would say is that if he goes to the Arkle, FELIX YONGER will relish the better ground than he has been getting in Ireland so can see him really excelling and his 2nd to SIMONSIG reads very well of course.
Cheers for sharing toppy.ive backed big bucks at 4s,the fly at 6s and bobs worth at 7/2 so I'm happy with that and will prob just play on the day.i see faugheen is being nibbled into 6s for the Neptune and I'm tempted to play but then again it is William Mullins were talking about!
Agree 100% about Felix Yonger enjoying the better ground, but I've just been impressed with the amount of toe Dodging Bullets has in crucial parts of his races, think he might just be too quick for FY. I've taken the 4sabout Big Bucks also Ste, and topped up at 3s, but I'm growing increasingly concerned about the machine that is Annie Power, think she might give BB a lot to think about! Novice hurdles are a nightmare, but looking forward to seeing the Skyfarmers next run, 25/1 for the supreme looks as good an each way bet as anything else in the bookmakers lists IMO
Keeping ante post bets to an absolute minimum this year as predicting the right race for a horse is often a triumph in itself. However the late Clement Freud used to write very entertaining articles about the benefits to the soul of having the odd antepost voucher burning a hole in your pocket. So my best bet right now, and only investment so far is Lyreen Legend @ 50s EW in the Gold Cup. Yes there are rightly many ahead of him at the top of the market but of the outsiders I think he has a decent chance. I certainly think the extended trip will suit him. He ran a very nice comeback race in the Lexus behind Bobs Worth and will definitely improve for the run. His next assignment is the Irish Hennessy and I expect him to run very well. Should he do so his odds will shorten and I'll feel very smug. Should he disappoint Dessie Hughes won't run him in the GC and I have non runner no bet terms so I'll get my dough back.
Guys A friend of mine who has no interest in horse racing or gambling has given me 2 from one of his clients in Nottingham. KINGS PALACE and DELL ARCA. KP well in on the ratings apparently compared to the last 2 winners and DA still highly progressive despite a fall last time. I've yet to study too deep as fingers have been burnt before Ante Post but am bored at work so thought I'd log in and post. I'm still waiting for THOMAS HOBSON to appear but a bit gutted its not gone to Alan King or someone here. Surely he'll need soft ground though at Prestbury Park to be competitve? Regards Shantystar
