The Dun Cow was always the end of the line on a friday night. Didnt realise it was still standing. Saw more **** smoked there than beer drank!

The back room was like the Black Hole of Calcutta. You went in with no guarantee of coming out!

Born in Salem Hill Hendon, living in the ground floor of a terraced house shared with my Aunts family who lived upstairs. The end of the terrace was a bomb site where we regularly cut our selves too pieces on broken glass and lumps of brick and climbing the huge lumps of wood holding up the wall of the end of the terrace.
This was the late fifties early sixties as well.
Footy in the street of 30 a side, spent longer for the "captains" to pick the teams than it did for the game.
And yes "Jumpers for goalposts." :p and the match went on till we got bored or one team scored 100.
No traffic my old man was the only one on the street with a car and he parked it in the backyard.

We were one of the very first families to move into the new houses at Downhill.

I have lived at Roker, Fulwell and near the Half Way House close to where the SOL is now. ( Where I used to have a pint with Jimmy Nail.)
Pennywell Grindon, Barnes and The Broadway.

Matter of opinion but I have always found the Southerners friendlier than the Northerners, especially the ones who live in a posher area that seem to think it makes them posh.

Spent my formative years doing the Friday night walk 6 o'clock in the Wavendon, down to the Chesters, through to Hylton road and hit every pub all the way to the town.
Then the 29, Derry, DunCow and me and my mate usually finished the night in the corner of the bar in the Black Bull.

And before anyone bites I know not all of the Northerners were arrogant.

    But to me southside wins.

My view for what it's worth -I've been living up here in Sunderland for 7 years and the city IMHO is a whole lot better than where I was born and bred (Essex/East London) - I live in South part btw :emoticon-0103-cool:

Nope Fusion was the big place top of the road.
Fino's was a pokey place upstairs mid terrace.

Toy Dolls had a song about it.

Says a lot, that's where there was a large gay congregation. Especially in the Ashbrooke pub.
But then I preferred the Alexandra where the men drank and the women had very few morals after a bag of crisps and a babycham. :p
