    Proposed bridge design options summary

A summary of the bridge design options is below and associated plans are available to
download on the A63 Castle Street consultation page.

    Option 1
A 2 metre wide bridge deck with 3 metre wide approach ramps and steps on both sides
of the A63. The bridge is located in front of Princes Quay shopping centre to the west of
    the Ask Restaurant.

    Option 2
A 4 metre wide bridge deck with 3 metre wide spiral approach ramps and steps on both
sides of the A63. The bridge is located in front of Princes Quay shopping centre to the
    west of the Ask restaurant.

    Option 3
A 5 metre wide bridge deck with 5 metre wide spiral approach ramps and steps on both
sides of the A63. The bridge is located in front of Princes Quay shopping centre to the
    west of the Ask restaurant.

    Option 4
A 5 metre wide bridge deck with 5 metre wide approach ramps and steps on both sides
of the A63. The approach ramps would extend down Princess Dock Street on the north
side of the A63 and down Humber Dock Street on the south side of the A63. The bridge
is located in front of Princes Quay shopping centre to the west of the Ask restaurant.

    Option 5
A 4 metre wide bridge deck with 4 metre wide approach ramps and steps on both sides
of the A63. The approach ramps will extend further down Princes Dock Street on the
north side of the A63 and further down Humber Dock Street on the south side of the
A63 compared to Option 4. The bridge is located immediately to the east of the Ask
    restaurant.

What happened to the 'land bridge', which was a much neater wide bridge that just crossed the road?

I think they're very, very poor. Why does Hull get lumbered with these sub-standard designs? This would never happen in other cities. What if Newcastle / Gateshead had gone for a bland straight over the Tyne design instead of the Millennium Bridge? Only number 4 is anywhere near interesting enough and it's still very, very average.

I agree. 4 is the best but all very poor. I know we're short of land in that area but the bridge needs to be more sweeping, foot traffic needs to just float across.

Do you think drinkers on a Friday and Saturday night are going to walk miles to get across the road? Aren't they more likely to just jump across the barrier in the middle of the road unless they are going to build walls to keep people off the road. Are they going to build anything at Market Place which I would have thought was the most popular place to cross, especially if they continue developing the Fruit Market area.

I thought the A63 was to be below ground level at that point though - or is that only further westwards at Mytongate junction ?

What horrible efforts, none of which I think are at all suitable for a future City of Culture.

i think there was a lot of pressure of those using the ports .

the original idea would impact on the city during 2017 if building it went to plan.
This is also a massively cheaper option but does nothing to hide the fact the two areas are split by a major road .
Lastly the original idea impacted on to historical sites , the one down dagger lane and also King Billy Statue.

Greater vision required, should have been cut and cover.

the road will drop below sea/ground level where the current ferensway junction is and pedestrians can cross the a63 there.

what would people prefer to the current designs? get your crayons out, come on, don't be shy.

    Uninspiring springs to mind.

What about a flat walk way from the car park?

It already has disabled access on the north end and could incorporate disabled access from the Marina in some of the ways on the drawings, but could also have a stepped platform down toward the Marina that could double up as a seating area for events in the Marina, such as a floating stage.

Pretty crap all of them. Lower Castle St and put a bridge the width of the Marina across it. No ugly steps or ramps just a continuation of Princes Dock Side and the street where Green Bricks is. (can't remember the name)

if it has to be an uninspiring footbridge , start if from Ask send it diagonally west in a curved swoop over the A63 , towards to western edge of the marina - from here - have 2 heights
    1. for a practical walk from A to B which doesnt get steeper for disability access and prampushers and a second which rises further for sightseeing over the marina and looking along the humber .

the could get arty on how its supported but it would give people a reason to make the extra effort - otherwise when most people needing to be one side or the other will choose the level crossing at Market place Jctn

For me this will just look like a wider bridge that crosses Clive Sully at Hessle foreshore area - crappy

All of them are uninspiring, design obviously comes last in their thinking.
Afraid they were all done by the office junior on his lunch break.

We need to look at more local design talent here, <whistle>
