Dave, you are smart enough to know that your problem isn't Moyes, it's an underwhelming squad. Several players haven't turned out as good as expected, others are on the wane, and Fergie stuffed up the long term buying program. With Rooney and RVP back you should still be in with a slight shout for top 4, but Moyes has a big rebuilding job ahead. You should start to come good by end of next season, so you won't be down long. Won't hurt you long term, might also realign the thinking of some fans and end up a good thing for all. Despite the antagonism among fans, the PL is better with a strong Utd.
I shall sleep well tonight! I hope David Moyes is not badly judged for his results! I do believe that even if Fergie was handling the squad currently at MU he would not be getting much better results! There needs to be some big spending if they want to be serious challengers!
First off, a job well done and 3 big points. Definitely couldn't afford anything less with City looming at the Ethihad. A massive game from Willian and worthy of MOM. Mind you if your team mate scores a hat trick you can't really complain ! The ebb and flow of football never fails to fascinate. At the end of January last year Utd had all but wrapped up the league and now just 1 year later they enter a 4 way scrap for a Champs League spot. You just never know in football what's around the corner to bite you in the bum. When we won the league in '06 for the second year running and bought Shevchenko and Ballack you would never think it would take another 4 seasons before we would win it again. An intriguing finish to the season awaits. Bring it on !!!
One of the most ironic aspects is when Fergie first came to Utd his job was to rebuild the squad and it took him time to achieve this. Fast forward to present day and he's left Moyes with a task of rebuilding but in an era where managers aren't given time. Moyes is likely to be sacked this or next season., but in reality never stood much chance of being a success and that isn't a reflection of his potential as a manager.
Think he only got away with it because Vidic had only just been sent off. If the tackles were reversed as to when they happened, think Rafael would have gone and Vidic just booked.
And those would have been the correct decisions. Vidic's was a def yellow, but not dangerous enough for a red. Rafael's was a potential leg breaker.
I think they were both red - was just saying on the United board that anything borne out of pure malice/anger should be punished, dangerous or not imo! Kicking someone up the backside on the field isn't exactly dangerous but it would still merit a sending off, a la JT vs Barca in the CL semis.
I agree but can see why some think its only a yellow. That was my initial reaction when I saw it. One of those where you can make a case either way. Rafael defo red though. He is a nasty little **** that one.
I can too, but I believe the intent to hack him down was there, never meant to reach the ball in the slightest. If it was just a late challenge I'd say yellow.
Good point. We were more or less all agreed that Terry deserved to get sent off that night and were in condemnation of him. What Vidic done was more dangerous, but had the same amount intent of just doing damnage to the man which is why Dowd saw it right to give a red.
