Monday AW racing comes from Wolverhampton and Southwell. The only jumps meeting (Bangor) has been cancelled due to 35mm of rain overnight which has made all three tracks waterlogged. Southwell 16.10 Ghostwing I thought I had found a 10/1 plot (forecast odds) only to find it is quoted at best priced 5/2 clear favourite . This horse loves Southwell and broke the 5 fur course record there 2 years ago under hands and heels ride. Carried 9.7 that day and tomorrow carries 9.4 with a 3lb claimer. Has been running over different courses and distances and seemingly not being tried too hard in some. Now returned to Southwell over ideal distance. Carries the Timeform squiggle, which is of some concern. However, if he can reproduce that performance back on his favoured surface he would come into this race on an adjusted Timeform rating of 97+ (about 20lb clear top). The (possibly) encouraging fact is that after almost 3 months off the track, running first time for new stable, he ran well at Lingfield 10 days ago with race report reading: "Dwelt, held up in rear, not clear run entering final 2f, effort on inner when hampered 1f out, stayed on but no threat to leaders". A bit of a risk being (allegedly) temperamental but I can't help thinking he has been lined up for this by his new stable, with just about everything in his favour. Disappointed with the price but maybe that's an indication that the money is down early.
Southwell 15.40 Thorpe Bay looks interesting at 5/1. Beaten 13½L by Maakirr here 11 days ago but "saddle slipped forward after 1f, lost 2nd halfway, beaten and eased over 1f out, not recover". Maakirr had the benefit of a previous outing that day. Thorpe bay is just 1lb better off tomorrow but Andrew Mullen is back in the saddle and he has a good record with this horse on this track, including 2 victories, a CD win and a 5f win. Must finish in the first 2 I would think.
Going to back The Lock Master tomorrow, I feel he is due and his last couple of runs seem to support this-money down tonight adds further weight to my interest. May well have a double with yours Ron who does seem plotted up!
Wolves 17.00 Turnbuckle - no prices available. I have a soft spot for anything sired by Teofilo but this couldn't be a simpler task for his racecourse début. An uncut 4yo out of a mare by Woodman, who sired Hawk Wing, Bosra Sham and Hector Protector. For good measure the dam of that mare was by Sadler's Wells. Looks to be in a different league to these, on paper.
Hello all Happy Monday , so what were our thoughts from the weekends results? Sire looked impressive but surely Sprinter is far too good for him with regards to Chelts ??? Picks today are: 300- Summer Free 330- Spreadable Now the second are from my trackers list, I have started using the BHA website and putting down reasons for bad runs, I have 2 that are flagged up today 340- Thorpe Bay 410- Ghostwing Both were spoken to by The BHA on their last runs and gave an explanation of (reported that the gelding was denied a clear run) So lets see what happens??? Good luck all
That's interesting, two of mine. I must have a look at that part of the site; wasn't aware of it. Could save some time.
have a look Ron, if you go to the bottom and Stewards Room its all on there. Also Thorpe Bay last run was down to a saddle slip so looks like a lot went against him and defo worth a try today !!!!
Morning, crew. Hope everyone on board well. Last terms GN runner-up Cappa Bleu out for the season then. Long Run beginning to look more and more attractive, people, re the Aintree showpiece. I see Pricewise turns his attentions to the Champion Chase tomorrow. Not a job I’d relish as where on earth do you find value in that heat right now?!? Answers on a postcard to the usual address. Good luck to those brave / stupid (delete as appropriate) enough to wager today.
That's useful info boili, thanks for that. If anyone else is interested it's here. You can search on the horse or date. I've added the link in the Horse Racing Forum Index
Looks like Thorpe Bay's running has been queried a few times, 5 that I could see and twice the saddle slipped. I wonder what it will be today.
One more thing while I’m on Hendo is likely to run Snake Eyes at Leopardstown this Saturday, providing he makes the cut, in the amazingly valuable €100,000 Boylesports Handicap Hurdle. Off a perch of just 123 he is likely to have next to no weight to carry as well. 16’s is currently available. The horse has proved quite a disappointment in the past and been beaten at odds as short as 1/5 and 2/5 in his time. However, his problem has been that he has been far too keen in his races and refused to settle. Mr Henderson’s magic hands though have been at work and the horse now appears much more relaxed and even tempered. People, if he makes the trip across the water expect him to exploit this mark of just 123.
Where is everyone today? Hedging bet is Southwell 16.10 4 points Ghostwing 9/4 1 point Imjin River 4/1
