I've got the usual Sunday jobs to do getting ready for the working week and then at 4 pm I'll sit down and watch the footy. I'm torn about what result I'd like to see today. A draw would be the easy choice but if there is a winner which way would you all go? Chelsea win would mean they are 6 points ahead of us a Utd win would mean they are 3 points behind us. My default would be a Chelsea win but I am a little torn. There's a poll of course.
we are in 4th and that is probably as high as we can get, we need to worry about those below us not above us as we don't stand a realistic chance of catching them. IF we wanted to play devils advocate the only team we could catch would be Arsenal, and sadly its unlikely. we want the top 3 teams if playing any one directly below us ie utd, spurs and everton to win on all accounts, no ifs buts maybes, win you feckers.
The other teams will drop points, so far this season we've lost too Arsenal away Man City away Chelsea away Southampton home Chelsea have yet to go to Man City, Arsenal are yet to go to Chelsea and Man City are yet to go to Arsenal. All three teams will drop points at the end, we were lucky to face them all in a bulk, so it looks bad now but ny the end it will even out.
Take a look at Arsenals fixtures between now and the end of March, IMO they will drop like a stone. If they don't and do well then they may just win it. Tough fixtures for everyone still to come, I'm still looking up.
Don't forget as well, Man City lost too Villa away, so we will already have more points than Man City in terms of against villa. We have one bad result and we all over exaggerate.
Even prior to the game, I felt that the top 3 teams were the strongest and it would be hard to dislodge them. We're nw 8 points behind the leaders which is a massive lead IMO. Only consolation is that we still have to play them all at Anfield but still winning all 3 games would be a monumental effort.
Chealsea and Swansea to win today would be the best for Liverpool. The fact remains that we are not title challengers, we don't have the squad for it. Of course aim for it, but realistically top 4 could happen this season [which at the beginning of the season most thought was beyond us]. Therefore let keeping Man U and Spurs below us would be beneficial. If Man U lose then they are 6 points off top 4 with 16 games to go which for Liverpool is brilliant.
I'd go for a Chelsea win if pushed, but a draw would suit us best after yesterdays 'cough' slip up. We have done the spadework in the first half of the season and we are still in January, there are many fixtures to come amongst the top seven or eight contenders before May.European stuff to re-commence shortly too. Many of them to visit Anfield also. All in all,to many variables to make an accurate call on where its going.
We need a Chelsea win today, if MU win then we fail to beat The Bitters we are in a real dogfight for 4th, with the top 3 still to play against albeit at home, makes them more crucial, easier if other teams drop points rather than relying on us to get the points. As yesterday showed, always likely to trip ourselves up.
Hopefully Swansea will beat the King Edwards and Chavs vs Muck is a draw. That's the situation where our closest rivals get the least points (apart from if Utd beat Chelsea of course but then that's them 3 points behind us rather than 5).
I'd say the current top 3 will be the top 3 at the end of the season in which order is the only debatable thing. We are in the next group down with Spuds, Everton, Manure and Newcastle (as the outsiders). We need to be hoping that all the teams in our little group of teams are dropping as many point as possible, even if that means the teams like Chelsea are the ones taking the points off them. So as much as I dislike the Chavs will be hoping they do Man U over today. Although a draw would also be acceptable.
If there must be a winner then Chelsea. Never wish for a Man Utd win unless it is of hugh benefit to us; ie gives us a title
