Just heard a rumour that Brendan has signed a new contract extending his management tenure. Great news if true but has anyone else heard anything to confirm?
havent heard anything myself. is a worry its being done in jan though as it takes attention off signings if true, fecking hope not. although obviously if true happy brendan has signed a new contract, just want some quality fecking players brought in.
I heard this a couple of weeks back, I think they were going to offer him a 5 year deal, if I remember correctly. He deserves it, the guys been a breath of fresh air and is exactly what this great club needs. His 'project' has really started to show it's fruits and he's only just at the start of it. If he keeps up the good work I would love to see his with us for the next decade at least
I don't care whether he signs during a transfer window or not as long as it doesn't effect our transfer activity. I'm sure Brod will have found time to let his agent negotiate
5 years would be fantastic. I'm glad we have a long term manager. Rafa was too vocal to ever be a long term (Wenger) manager while we all knew Hodgson & Kenny were both short term (we'd have only ever 5 years max from Kenny) so its great to have a young manager, moving forward with a great mix within the team and a vision
I actually disagree with long term contracts for managers unless there is something built in meaning you only have to pay a shorter term of the contract should they be sacked. Things can turn so quickly in football.
Guardiola only used to have 1 year ones at Barca didn't he? Worked pretty well there. Saves the club loads if you need to boot them.
Stuart Pearce refused to sign a contract at Man City and stayed on a rolling deal. He claimed that either party was free to end the agreement at any time that way and thats how it should be. Worked out well for him in the end too
It's horses for courses. As long as both sides are satisfied with the agreement then it's up to them. I'd still prefer that each club had to identify it's squad before the first KO of the season - players coaches and managers. Then you play the season with those people unless there is a major problem and a change is sanctioned.
I think it should be good for the club if he has signed - It sends a message to any potential targets we have saying "We have a long term manager, running a long term project!" Should say we have stability which ha to be a good attraction doesn't it? But agreed, as long as it doesn't affect player signings in the interim!
How long did Brod have left anyway? He will have signed for at least three years when he joined meaning he would have at least sixteen months left.
Rodgers can be our next great long term manager. Good news! As long as we start and keep winning stuff.
Barca are a special case as they are the benchmark for any football manager (along with MADrid). I don't like the idea of Managers (or players) using Liverpool FC as a stepping stone (which is, unfortunately what we have become) we need to ensure our players and more so our manager is committed for the long term
look if he wants to join hodgson in the "manager's club for people winning nothing with lfc" as the sole members since shankly joined LFC fine.. swan off but he aint going to do it and frankly this a nothing story cos nobody "big" will want him... just where do people think he'd be "stepping up" to
I'm not really a fan of awarding him a big contract because he;s not really achieved anything. I rather evaluate his performance at the end of the season. No doubt, he's done a great job in the past calendar year. I'm guessing the new contract is to warn off other clubs.
what other club though? i reckon he's pretty close to the top of his reach right now. until as you say he wins stuff no club outside engalnd will come in and frankly city and arsenal and chavski are sorted... utd?
