Yeah, I realised that as soon as I'd read it back mate, was probably editing my post as you were writing that! I agree we'd probably rub it in, only as a response in kind but I'd prefer you lot to stay up personally, it would be a fairly hollow victory anyhow considering we're more than likely ending the season trophyless outside the top 4. That horrible ****ty line dancing won't be done by our fans though, and yes, I'm speaking on behalf of all of us.
If I was Ellis Short or Gus Poyet or any of the players it's a no brainer - stay up every time. I'm none of the above, I'm a fan, a fan who's seen us win the cup and lose two other Wembley finals. I have also enjoyed promotion seasons much more than getting beat every week in the prem. Give me a cup. If we have to, a season in the Championship doesn't hurt too much.
We don't have that choice to make or even need to. This squad and current team are good enough to keep us up with a little bit of tinkering and its also good enough to go to Wembley, even if it is a big task ahead at OT. Once there, I think either Utd or ourselves will face a mammoth task in beating a City team that is just ramping up the gears now. However, in a one off game its always difficult to predict. These kinds of pub debates are always entertaining but for me, its purely hypothetical and for fun only. Our season will be decided though by how Gus performs and most importantly, how the team perform in the next 18 weeks or so.
Yeah Cest, that's why Wearside said, in the OP, 'I know this is all hypothetical' ........... like you say it's just a bit of fun.
I'd take the cup now that we've won the first leg of the semi. Too bloody close to Wembley to let logic get in the way! The PL, however, remains miles more important, as we all know, if only for financial reasons. We're miles from having a sniff of competing for it, let alone winning it, but it remains the place to be...
