I hope MP doesn't leave as I really like what he is doing, however, IF he leaves, then so be it. He has been our manager 12 months and the players would have learned a lot from him. I'd be disappointed , but bring on the next one. Get used to it after the 10 in 10 years or whatever the numbers are? Shame I haven't won the EuroBillions yet.
Yep, Shaw - http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/nicola-corteses-southampton-departure-like-3028224
Important word in that article is "tried" doesn't say Shaw has the clause... I am gutted NC has gone and will be upset if NC goes, but we are used to such things, if the players bail out then I won't be so forgiving - southampton til i die
This whole thing may simply be that Katharina Liebherr wasn't prepared to have Cortese (a guy that - unlike Markus - she may not be particularly close to or even like) in sole charge of a business she owns that's worth over £100m. It's hardly an unreasonable position to take. Presumably there's some sort of mission statement, plan or "vision for the club" written down somewhere in St Mary's. We won't necessarily accept the first half-decent bid we get for a player just because Cortese has left and she might be just as dedicated to her father's hopes and plans for Southampton as Cortese was.
Not really true - he did get and spend the money in the summer - over £30million - with Osvaldo, Lovren & Wanayama coming in
More Shaw. Martin Lipton comes across as a bit of a berk though - http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/football-spy-luke-shaw-could-3028162
From KUMB: 'Good, I hope them and Swansea with their tippy tappy pundit ****fest football fall back into league one.'
And another, with a lighter touch and doing his best Russell Brand impression: 'This is something more like wot we should be doing.....how very dare they hijack our circus.'
We have no idea if he wanted something in the January window which may have changed his mind, but it seems too tenuous, once the die was cast in October, I imagine there was no going back, it seems that not everyone that should have known, was actually in the loop and were caught on the hop as were we and this may be significant in the immediate situation.
Is Pochettino's contract up this summer? If it is then I can see him seeing out the season and seeing what happens on the owner front and who is brought in as Exec Chairman. If it goes well then he may sign a new deal, if not then just leave when his contract is up.
Even if not, you'd have to think there's a possibility that any new owner would be tempted to offer Cortese his job back, so long as that new owner doesn't want to be chairman himself. I mean he does have excellent credentials. If and when we do get a new buyer, we the fans could always let him know how much we'd like him to do that!
End of next season. No owner who wanted even the slightest influence over how the club is run would appoint Cortese.
Exactly what I was thinking. If you are his friend and are happy to sit back (like Markus)...fine, but if you want any involvement...then no. Nicola has left because there was a power struggle...we just have to see how it pans out. Sounds like Katharina wanted him to stay in the job, but he obviously didn't like the terms......or (dare I say it) he has another job lined up.
This is why smaller Premier League clubs can never be successful for very long. You start doing too well, other people notice, you lose your best players to bigger clubs, the owner wants to sell them; manager falls out, or the owners get fed up of pumping money into the club and then it all starts to unravel.
Yep. Easy to blame Liebherr, but you can't really begrudge her wanting to wrest some of the control back, she does own the club after all. Incidentally the Telegraph's Jeremy Wilson thinks Cortese wants to stay involved in English football. Hard to imagine how he would cope somewhere he doesn't have total control though.
Ben Smith slipped this one through the Beeb website before writing another. This one has a good explanation. I understand that the differences between Kathy and Nicola were about when to sell. She wants sooner, he said later. From a business and success point of view, I think he's right, again. Apologies if it has already been posted: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/25755711
On the other hand, the most recent reports are saying she's not looking to sell. I'm more inclined to believe the reports that Liebherr wants to redistribute power among the rest of the board (including perhaps herself, or a representative).
