As much as I agree that CH's position is looking increasingly hopeless, I despair when I keep seeing the names of Adams and Huckerby touted. I think it really undermines the 'out' case because it seems to me to demonstrate thinking that is based entirely upon emotion rather than reason. I have no wish to denigrate either, since they have been brilliant for the club but we have to be looking for more than a big roar from the fans when they are introduced. Adams was successful in a 6 round U18 cup competition - I'm not even sure if the U18 league results have been particularly good? Put it this way, if DM recruited someone we didn't know from another club based purely upon their cup record at U18 level would we be comfortable, even if it was just for the rest of the season? If the answer is yes, then we can probably come up with a lot of very cheap options.
No Robbie - I am suggesting that when our good start didn't result in a goal CH either ordered or allowed a fall back to the wings and half way line. If ordered - why? If the players just slipped back into old bad habits why didn't he sort it out ? There was not a lot of animation on the touchline was there?
Those figures for Toon include nearly half a season in the Premier League (they were 11th when he was replaced). One thing I'd like to know, though, is whether you would say that similarly plummeting figures for Paul Lambert show that the Championship is his level too? I ask because Lambert's current win ratio at Villa is 33%, which is not that much better than Hughton's with us. [Edit] Furthermore, his win ratio in the PL while managing us was only 31.6, which compares very unfavourably with his ratios while managing us in the Championship (50%) and League One (63%). Clearly this shows that Lambert is clueless as a manager in the PL and he should really stick to League One which is obviously his true level.
Well said. Although I was at the game yesterday, we were dreadful and I'm now confident a change is needed. Just not one like Adams or Huckerby, please!
When I brought the two of them up I specifically stated that I wasn't advocating it. My point was that bringing in a new manager is a huge decision and there will be more options available to us over the summer. I was basically saying that we might be looking at a spurs type decision.
It really doesn't matter who you bring it at this stage, especially if it short term, this is not a criticism of CH in that anyone would be better. it is just that (as on other threads) anything that would give the players a boost, a fresh impetus would, i think see us over the line.
Indeed exactly this. It doesn't matter if the replacement is better than CH! God that sounds stupid! We so desperately need a lift to stay up.
I avoided quoting you because my frustration wasn't really directed specifically at your post. I do see people advocating these names on here and elsewhere, and I don't understand why.
Or some Blackburn fans. It is a fair bet that all three clubs that go down this year will have changed their manager during the season - doesn't always work does it? I just can't accept that if we sacked CH and brought in Roeder, Grant or Gunn ( as examples ) we would automatically stay up.
I don't believe you seriously think CH ordered them to do any such thing, whereas it was patently obvious that he HAD told them to get on the front foot from the whistle.
I don't think he did which leaves option 2 which is just as bad. I can hear a Scottish voice in my head shouting ' do as you are f@@@ing told or you will be off in 5 mins!!
In answer to the O.P, McNally apparently, and he´s the only one that matters http://www.theguardian.com/football/2014/jan/15/chris-hughton-norwich-city so for Hughton´s sake, a win on Saturday, would be very welcome. Hopefully none too many would begrudge him that.
PinkUn poll - 85% want him out (not that surprising): http://www.pinkun.com/home/is_it_ti...s_hughton_to_go_fans_have_their_say_1_3211356
I'm surprised that nobody has taken up the earlier comment about our injured players. At the moment, we are without one of our only two creative midfielders, (Howson), our DM, (Tettey), who was in great form before his injury, our best CB, (Turner), Pilkington, who on his day can win a game, (Man U?), and our two main strikers have both been injured for a good bit of the season. Hughton has not made great play of this; he talks about it being a squad game, but I would have thought that no one would seriously say that their squad replacements are as talented. As to Hughton, I will support him as long as he is our manager. It's as simple as that. But I'm fairly sure he will be replaced if we don't win on Saturday, and that the club will have to spend money allocated to squad improvement to paying him off and enticing his replacement. Like many, I can't see anyone out there, who is worth our doing without two or three better players next window, for.
I don't think it would guarantee anything either, but part of the problem at Wolves was McCarthy was replaced with backroom staff and they were 8 points adrift with about 10 games to go. It didn't really change the attitude/training/confidence in the players at all, it seemed to me that there was already an air of resignation. So someone who can come in and give the the players, etc a boost would be a step in the right direction. Confidence plays a big role int he success of a club and if CH can instill in the players then I think he should stay- attending the away matches there is a noticeable decline in players confidence and motivation. If it remains missing for the rest of the season then a lot of the fanatastic work that has been done (including CH keeping us up last year) will be undone.
