Seems WBA need to raise some cash - sounds like the only way Mel will be able to bring his own backroom staff in is through raising funds.
Hear you loud & clear Macca but if WBA want him they'd be looking at his contract situation - far as I'm aware at this point they're not...if I were the player that would say to me they're not keen to renew/offer terms...could be other sides are looking/offering but I have to say I have get the feeling that if the money's right he'd be here or anywhere else..visions of Steven Hunt, etc., ...I suspect he'd follow the money & nothing wrong with that but if he don't perform then expect the flack that will emanate from me & lots of other in East Stand....
The Press like to use big numbers as it helps (they believe) sell papers. So what they talk about is "contract value". For example:- Transfer Fee £3m Add Ons £1m Wages * £3m Total £7m Add ons would be bonus for staying up, goal target achieved, or even Sell on clause. Wages could be £20k per week at 3 years contract length £3m All figures are approximate of course. This is why different papers give such different "values".
I know prices are over inflated in this window but seven million seems way over the top for a player whose parent club do not appear to even be in talks to trigger their years extension option. On the other hand if goals from Long secured our status in this division the financial gain would far outweigh his transfer fee. Not easy this football management lark is it?.
No it's not! But with those two up front, and an attacking midfielder who can beat a man, we could be set for a good few years in the top flight!
This ^^^^ Just imagine if we'd have bought Hooper with his £75k a week wage demands. I think we have 2 strikers now (who are just as good if not better) on wages less than that combined.
latest: 0920 Pat Murphy, BBC Sport reporter Football "Hull City are closing in on last summer's target Shane Long, West Brom's striker. West Brom have accepted an offer that could rise to around £7m with add-ons and Long is now set to have talks with Hull today. "He nearly moved to Hull on the final day of last summer's transfer window and he and West Brom appear a long way off agreeing a new contract, with 18 months left on his existing one, including a one-year option. It seems West Brom feel the bid is too good to turn down."
Reports I have read indicate a structured payment which could rise up to around £7Million. No one knows the clauses of the add-ons which might include survival, goals, international appearances etc. Hope we can agree personal terms. Exciting times
@John__Percy 1h Shane Long is set for talks with Hull today after #wba accept bid worth potentially £7m #hcafc I think signing Long and Jelavic is fantastic business by you lot. Theres 2 will defiantly score the goals to keep you safe
