The next ownership will determine it. Saints are a pretty attractive proposition for someone trying to buy in to top-flight football, though the sort that have the money and desire are a tempestuous lot.
Don't generally post on here, but just wanted to say a big thank you to NC for all of the hard work he put in to our club. With so much uncertainty it is hard to know what to think but at the end of the day we still have Southampton FC to support.
Whatever would Flora say though..? You are referring to the one on the left of the picture, of course.
Simon Burwood of Sky Sports - did their filming at Southampton over the past few seasons: "There is no doubt Cortese drove through great success at #saintsfc but it's a fact there will be some at the club breathing a sigh of relief"
It is not at all easy to take a dysfunctional club with financial problems in league one all the way to being a first-rate club like we are now. But it's actually not as hard to take the next step up so long as we have the money. Just think of how few teams have made it from L1 to PL in a short length of time. And think of how many teams have gone from say mid-table to 5th in the same period. So losing Cortese, while disappointing, may not be that bad. And I don't think K. Liebherr has to be the villain in this. She gave NC a gigantic sum of money and ridiculous amounts of leeway to spend it; I don't think you will find too many non-owners given the free reign he had.
I feel strangely calm about this. Not sure if that's because it hasn't sunk in yet, not even a little bit, or if it's because deep down, I am convinced Nicola will return one day. Possibly with new owners. I was totally calm 12 months when Adkins was sacked, but I could understand that. I had total faith in faith in Nicola. I never expected to be this calm though when it was Nicola's turn to leave. Maybe give it two weeks and I'll be weeping into my pillow, before being found in a gutter.
