Fair point. With Jelavic now done I am wanting to know what the latest is with Shane Long ? 2 PL clubs above us have agreed a fee with the Baggies according to talksport. If that goes west then take a punt on Danny Ings @ Burnley.

Hull City set £7.5m transfer record as Nikica Jelavic signs three-and-a-half-year deal By Hull Daily Mail | Posted: January 15, 2014 RECORD ADDITION: Everton striker Nikica Jelavic will join Hull City in a £7.5m deal. RECORD ADDITION: Everton striker Nikica Jelavic will join Hull City in a £7.5m deal.  Comments (9) ASSEM Allam has hailed the arrival of Nikica Jelavic as Hull City's "biggest ever signing" ahead of announcing a club-record £7.5m deal for the Everton striker today. The Tigers' owner has now taken his spending on the club way past the £80m mark, having brought the 28-year-old to the KC Stadium on a three-and-a-half-year deal. But after backing manager Steve Bruce in the transfer window, Allam believes his investment in the tenth-placed Tigers is well worth it. He said: "The club is moving forward. We are paying a lot of money for first-class players." Jelavic joined Everton in a £5.5m deal from Rangers in January 2012 and made an immediate impression, scoring 11 goals in 16 games before the end of the season. City are believed to have paid £6.5m to take him to the KC, with another £1m dependant on avoiding the drop. Although he struggled to maintain his momentum during the following campaign, Jelavic has found his first-team chances increasingly restricted this term. But he did score twice in the 4-0 FA Cup win over QPR earlier this month, and will go straight into contention to face Norwich this weekend. so have we or haven't we signed Jelavic? Despite all the "signing imminent" and "it's a formality" stories I can't see anything that says definite. Should we be worried that it's taking so long? Perhaps Mr Jelavic has heard the latest insanities from Papa Allam and done a runner (gone for lunch).
How has Jelavic's transfer value gone up 50% since his last move when he hasn't been in scoring form for ages? The Allams are supposed to be canny negotiators. Apologies if similar has been posted. The thread is so long (no pun intended).
It does seem an excessive transfer fee. I've no qualms with the quality of player he is, but it does seem a bit like the Proschwitz scenario where we're just overpaying, or pretending to overpay in order to make a point.
January Transfer Window and a Striker, bit like gold dust at the moment so fees all driven by supply and demand. Clubs know we are desperate for a proven goal scorer. Just need Shane Long next, then we'll have a potent strike force.
Everton payed £5.8m for him, we are now allegedly paying £6.5m upfront and an additonal £1m if we stay up, that's a 37/43% increase. He scored 16 in 59 in the Prem and showed what hes capable of. Also, I don't think we were in a very good position when negotiating. Everton didn't need to sell but we most definitly needed a striker. We probably overpay, but I think think there's much we can do.
Yep - clubs often overpay in January. And the whole transfer market has been given a shot in the arm by the massively increased TV deal.
