Many people keep bleating on that this squad of
players "is the best we have had" etc etc.

    Do you really believe this?

There are no current squad players IMO who
would get in "Best ever X1" and I doubt even
    a "Best ever Reserve X1"

Far from being our strongest ever squad we
have average players performing below average.

Sits down and waits for the flack.<cheers><cheers>

Hardly need to say so, but have been saying so myself for a while.

I think they are all good players, but the manager isn't getting the best out of them. Fox might be an exception.

I think the problem is that "best ever" equates, for many to "we've spent the most ever".

I wonder what the price of a Robert Fleck would be in today's money. A Dale Gordon or Ian Crook? Actually my curiosity got the better of me - Fleck cost us 580, 000 in 1987. In today's money 1,382,720. Even Huckerby in today's money just over 1.2 million. WTF is going on?

It depends. In terms of footballing ability, RvW and Fer are comfortably up there. In terms of impct on the club - maybe not. Similarly would you include Bellamy? A top player, but not so much for Norwich due to his age.

Give Hooper, Fer and Ruddy time and they could be. Also if Pilks could stay fit for more than 16 seconds at a time he could make the bench.

    Bah!

Players can't really be seen in isolation, I think. They're part of a team and sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. For instance, I have a horrible feeling that RvW will move on having flopped for us, but then go on to be a real star somewhere else.

I think it's the best since about 1994/1995.

The players are certainly getting closer to the 1992/93 squad, but I think it's a long way from the best squad we have had relative to other teams in the division. There is no way our squad is good enough to finish 7th, let alone 3rd, and it's relativity that counts!

One of the most talented squads maybe, but you need more then just talent. Don't think they have the character of other squads and certainly all round not the best squad ever. Of course they can change that as all squads are judged on performance.

    I think the opposite VC.
I think that under a new manager RvW will flourish.

Go back a few years and remember a certain mr. Roberts.
Cost us a fair bit then, and if I remember rightly, was considered a waste of money as he didn't do much when he got here.
His second season, and subsequent ones, with us though were just a tad different.

I am inclined to agree with this, though I guess Hooper and one or two others may have the potential to reach those heights in time.
So I suppose the squad is not that good at all, when you put it like that.

i think times have changed so much it's difficult to compare to the pre-premier league days, but broadly I agree. also the quality of some of the football of the 'bottom half' teams has dropped in the last couple of years.

we are not playing as a unit, as a team, individual skills mean nothing if you cannot gel as a group, to play well as a team is like a collective thinking of 'one', each player knows the next players move and the game flows... we played above ourselves for several seasons because PL installed the belief in these players that they could win, something CH seems incapable of. Our first season in premiership we still had quite a few league one players in our team, they where hungry and fearless something that our current players are not. they look scared and unable to second guess there team mates moves, disjointed and not on the same wave length..
