    Probably a load of crap..

This one appears to have come from nowhere; Gazzetta dello Sport are reporting on Wednesday that Manchester United have contacted Sunderland about the possibility of signing Vito Mannone. The Italian goalkeeper joined from Arsenal on a permanent deal during the summer window, having been sent on loans to both Hull City and Barnsley by Arsene Wenger.

I hope that Westwood make a full recovery and is able to continue his career, but his injury has unfortunately been one of the positives of the season.

Why would he want to go back to being an understudy again after years wasted at Arsenal? Why would we want to sell our ONLY fit goalkeeper with any experience?

Its a horseshit story from beginning to end.

Sunderland boss Gus Poyet says Vito Mannone is 'calm' about being linked to Manchester United - and wants a new goalkeeper himself.

Mannone, who moved to Sunderland for £2million last summer, is now first choice with Keiren Westwood set to miss the rest of the season with a shoulder injury.

Reports in Italy on Wednesday suggested David Moyes was considering Mannone as a possible back-up to David De Gea at Old Trafford.

But Sunderland boss Poyet says Mannone is happy at the Stadium of Light, with the Uruguayan in the market for a back-up goalkeeper himself.

David Forde is a possible target, with the 34-year-old out of contract at the end of the season and available for a minimal fee from Millwall.

Sunderland have also been linked with two Argentine keepers playing in Italy - Catania stopper Mariano Andujar and Genoa's Albano Bizzarri - with Poyet keen to strengthen his options before the end of this month.

The Black Cats boss told the Sunderland Echo: "I think Vito is calm about everything.

"It was a very different situation for me with Vito and Westy (to give Mannone his first Premier League start), probably one of the hardest decisions I made before Manchester City.

"Unfortunately, Westy has had an operation now and is out for another three months. But I'm calm over Vito. There are players that you can talk openly to and Vito is one of those."

On the search for a new keeper, Poyet added: "It's a position that we are looking at.

"We're working on a few positions and I can say openly that we're looking at goalkeepers, although that doesn't mean someone will come.

"I don't want to say I'm going to bring in this, this and this, because then you don't have the quality. But if there's a player who I know can come in and help us quickly, then I will do."

England Under-19 international Jordan Pickford has provided back-up for Mannone in recent games - but is cup-tied for Wednesday's Capital One Cup semi-final second leg, meaning his fellow academy product Joel Dixon will occupy a spot on the bench.

Utd back to the old routine of unsettling a key player before the 2nd leg. Idiots!

    This is a non-story though.

Unless the offer is ridiculously high then we wont be selling and the player himself has spent quite a few frustrating years at Arsenal without a sniff and doesn't seem at all interested in returning to lazy Saturday afternoons off again. Only a completely unambitious and basically lazy player such as Steve Harper would be prepared to spend an entire career as a substitute. Mannone strikes me as a far more ambitious player than the likes of Harper and in my opinion anyway, would only be interested if it were to replace De Gea not stand in for him 2 or 3 times a season.

He's better now than De Gea was when he signed for them and he cost £20+M didn;t he?? If they offer £30m then it may be worthwhile!!

Or it could just be a story coming out of Manchester United a week prior to a big cup game against the keeprs team with an attempt to unsettle - wouldn't surprise me one bit

Any offer over £10m would be a trigger to cash in imo but Man Utd have no intentions of buying him at all for that kind of money. They will be thinking more along the lines of what we paid a few months ago + 5%.

If their aim was to try and unsettle us before the semi final at OT then to be quite frank it has back fired as they seem even more desperate now than they did a week ago in my eyes. Moyes isn't SAF when it comes to mind games and we have already beaten him as the Man Utd manager now. Tough game for sure but nothing to fear anymore at Old Trafford where their best player is over 40 years old now.

I'm not saying we can go there and win but then we don't have to win do we? They do and I fancy us to score as well, so they may need 3 to be certain. Look, if they do score 3 they may well go through but I fancy our back 5 these days against anyone and although Ki and Catts will have to be at their best and our midfield/forwards will have to work their bollocks off, I don't have the same trepidation as i did going there under SAF.

Because I've got to three large posts on the rumour mill that i need to update, and link. Doesn't update itself ya na <ok>

I'm letting them build up a bit before adding otherwise it would be all I would do, meanwhile, I've been setting up match threads, scrawling for info to add to them that doesn't constantly put us down, writing a lot of match threads myself thanks to the way we're viewed and the lack of decent coverage in the media, also early info is hard to find and folk start asking for the match threads when the information just isn't there to presen and doing APL League Tables.

I do a lot for this forum ya na.

I'm also caring for my partner, cleaning half the day, buying and selling on Ebay trying to keep up with the cost of living and trying to keep myself sane.
