I may despair at Hughton's tactics, but you can't deny he has a good eye for talent at his old clubs, I remember several of you were somewhat underwhelmed by Bassong...look how that turned out! Same with Redmond, if CH says that he will add good value to our team, I believe him! Anyone who has La Liga and PL experience in the quantities that he has (30+ games each season since 2005) is well worth our time. Welcome to Carrow Road, I say
Here's a video about what he meant to us while he was here, and the passion he brings. You're a side that need a bright face, a player that works hard and move with the ball. Vid starts off slow, watch the whole thing.
I was very concerned about this when I thought it was a permanent deal, I breathed a sigh of relief when reading it was a loan. I've no issues with a loan agreement, I don't believe he's part of the missing midfield jigsaw needed, but its reasonable to have a temporary fix. Although on watching the highlights clip it looks like he doesn't do alot. And another inverted winger. The longer I spend writing and thinking about this post the more I'm put off. ****ing useless Hughton
It's another option, nobody can do any worse then what our wingers have served up over the past few months, it's like watching a kid play FIFA sometimes. Also if we ever intend on playing five men in midfield I'd be tempted to use Pilkington as an attacking midfielder.
The reason he has barely played this season is to do with his contract. Its reported if he played one more game then his contract was automatically renewed with a pay increase. Getting to the end of his career but will put a shift in and can often magic something up from time to time
This lad has served us well and I wish him every success. He will graft his bollocks off for you, get you loads of free kicks and won't bleat. He was still an International with Argentina when we were relegated and could have jumped ship like the other rats, however, he stayed and fought like hell to get us back up. Thank you Jonas, and good luck.
Thought you might enjoy this signing Carrabuh!! It shows the board are supporting Hughton's vision. Bodes well! So we now have Redmond, Snodgrass , Pilkington, Murphy boys and Jonas. Bennett when he is back. 7 wide men in total. And strikers who cannot score ( mainly due to poor service) and a goal difference of -18.yes Jonas is the solution.

I don't think even Hughton is claiming that Gutierrez is the solution. He's inexpensive, experienced cover/competition for Pilkington who I wouldn't bet on staying fit for the rest of the season. Yes we've got the Murphy's, but neither are ready for a tight relegation battle, and it frees up Redmond to challenge Snodgrass for the right midfield berth which he's become all too comfortable in. On the defensive side of things we've got a winger who will tackle back better than Redmond and the Murphy's, and going forward he'll probably be at least slightly better than the youngsters at keeping possession, and previously he's linked up well with his LB going forwards - something Redmond is very poor at. He's also versatile in case we have further injury problems. Signing Gutierrez is highly unlikely to turn our season around, I haven't seen anyone claiming he will, but I don't see having an extra option in the squad as a bad thing either. We've got two and a half weeks left of the window, and for me what will make or break our season is whether we bring in a top centre back and/or a creative attacking midfielder. Early days yet in January, a lot of clubs around us have done nothing yet.
Like many others, I feel a loan until the end of the season with Newcastle hopefully paying a chunk of his wages makes much more sense. Now let's sort out the creativity problem.
Hmmmmmm.... Not sure this will help Norwich in any shape or form. Your side is already a hard working outfit with b****r all creativity... Jonas will get zero assists and zero goals... I suppose he is slightly different in one respect, he's a tricky dribbler, and can relieve pressure quite well by dribbling out of defence, or by tracking back more than a normal winger, but by god he's useless in an attacking sense. Might as well shut down that left flank boys, all your play has to come from the right from now on
Agree DH , that was the point of my post we need other players in the positions you mention. Jonas is a City player now so will give him a chance but a CB and creative midfield player would be nice. Not easy to get but would be nice.
What I thought was interesting to come out of the coverage of the transfer today was CH saying (not exactly) "We'll only be looking at players we're already familiar with" (it's right at the end of an interview). So to me that suggests any targets will be those identified in the summer, or by scouting trips by the likes of Berg before christmas, no names are going to come out of nowhere (although admittedly Rannochia seemed to, so perhaps it won't just be names that have been previously rumoured). With Ruiz having a medical ahead of moving to PSV from Fulham, that frees up Toivonen to move on, and I'm convinced we're in for him. Unless Cove can advise us otherwise, I don't think his situation at PSV has improved, he still won't sign a new contract, so PSV have to move him on in January to get any kind of transfer fee. If we had a £4m bid accepted in the summer, he wouldn't cost any more than that now, and the lack of other options materialising in the summer should help convince him we're the right (only!) option. I do hope I'm not getting carried away with this, but I'm convinced he's coming.
Its a shame we can't assume we are back in for Alderweireld too!! EDIT: although a quick google suggests he hasn't played much for Atletico - another potential loanee?? Though usually I'd prefer us to buy our own CBs. No particular reason for that, but it does seem that loans are usually for attacking players, with Garrido being the obvious exception
I assume your post was sarcastic fella, but I don't really know why and I don't get why this is a bad signing? Of those wide players you list Bennett is out all season, Pilks has been out injured for a couple of months and is likely to break down again anytime soon, Snodgrass desperately needs a breather to recharge his batteries and get himself focused for the rest of the season because he looks like he's currently running on empty - he's also had injury problems this season. Redmond is starting far more games than anyone would have expected, mainly through lack of other options, and he needs to be used carefully or he'll burn out before the end of the season. And even though Josh has had some game time (he's been used superbly so far in my opinion, credit to Hootun for that surely?) and has looked lively when coming on towards the tail-end of matches against tired legs I don't think we can realistically be relying on him to be starting many games, with some big ones coming up in the next month or so. Jacob certainly can't be relied on, not yet anyway, he could do with going out on loan perhaps. So that doesn't really leave us with a huge number of options if we want to keep people fresh - we had to play Garrido out there last week for heavens sake! It's a no-brainer for me, especially on a loan deal and in a World Cup year. And if our other wingers have been so awful, creating nothing (which I concur too often they have) then perhaps getting someone else in to have a go and give the current incumbents some healthy competition/kick up the arse is a good idea, no? And this is someone who doesn't need to learn the language, or settle into the British way of life, a great character to add to the dressing room by all accounts, and someone who has played in pretty much every league game for Newcastle for the previous five seasons. Is it really that awful a signing? I don't know, for some reason I honestly thought Carrabuh would be pleased with this one, a player who relies on technique rather than any particular physical attribute - and with a fancy name to boot! Ah well, should have known better I guess. Thumbs up from me anyway
This is the biggest thing for me. I don't think Gutierrez will necessarily dazzle (and his crossing sounds like it leaves an awful lot to be desired), but I feel he's been brought in to fix one or two of the psychological problems we have, as well as giving us a bit more technique and class further up the pitch. Carrabuh, bless him! His mind sounds like it was made up before Hughton had even identified the target.
