Might not be of much interest to many people but i was talking to a mate the other day as he knows I support City but go watch Carlisle with him alot. He had noticed how many players had acctauly played for / managed both of these sides in recent times, why do you think it is? Similar sort of places where Hull has often been a logical step up from Carlisle? I also think Man U resreves have a little connection going on there as well.

Ones i thought of off the top of my head, you may be able to add more?

    Liam Cooper
    Nigel Pearson
    Matt Fryatt
    James Chester
    Greg Abbott
    Michael Bridges
    Joe Dudgeon
    Cory Evans
    Stuart Green
    John Welsh
    Jason Price
    Darryl Duffy

Didn't realise Pearson, Fryatt, Dudgeon, Evans, Welsh, Price or Duffy ever played there. Although I'm guessing those last 3 will have been since leaving us?

Correct yes all after leaving us, Price was on loan where he performed very well then signed on a perm and then all of a sudden was poor and rarely played and now released. Duffy played 8 times on loan. Welsh was signed directly from us. Pearson was incharge of Carlisle when Jimmy Glass (GK) infamously scored from a corner to keep them in the football league, NP brought him in on an emergency loan. very shrewd ;)

It's just because Carlisle are a small club and have traditionally taken in a lot of players on short term loans, barely any of that list were permanent signings and many of them only played a handful of games on loan.

Very shrewd indeed, and I take it Dudgeon and Evans have been loaned there from Man U? But I thought Dudgeon hadn't made a senior appearance yet?

He made two appearances on loan last season, which is actually twice as many as Corry Evans, who only played in one game for them.

Yes loaned to them by Fergie. Dudgeon has made two snr appearances for the Cumbrians. He has a HUGE long throw in very Rory Delap style we could use that alot next year?

    Delaps are better than corners.

If he can arrow it in like Delap that would be very useful...

But the people on that other thread won't let us have a target man so there'll be no one to throw it to!

Can just see it now last minute against Leeds..... Dudgeon launches it in and big Dele rises to nod it in and we win 3-2.

Kenwyne Jones profits from these type of set peices, but in their defence if they are as good as they looked before you could send centre backs up as you would for a corner

On another thread, everyone is moaning about our attitude to the game and how the Spanish's is much better. This post proves my point that we will never adopt their style or mindset...

There's no doubt that the Spanish knock the ball about very well, but even Barcelona stick the likes of Puyol and Pique in the box for set pieces and Real Madrid like to have the option of bringing on an Adebayor or Higuaín type player, who can mix it up a bit.

I think if any team in the world had a player who had the ability to launch the ball into the box from a throw-in like Rory Delap, they would utilise it.

I've heard about the Dudgeon long throw but have never actually seen it. I look forward to a bit of Stoke City style set piece play next season <ok>

Can Deano warm up in front of him?

Deano at Stoke was one of the funniest things I have ever seen at a City match. And when Myhill kicked it out for a corner to avoid a throw-in...

One of the true advantages of having Phil Brown as manager. Only he (or Mourinho) could deploy tactics of that nature

I've heard a few times that Delap never took a single long-throw when he was playing for Sunderland (or was it Southampton?) prior to joining Stoke. Though I don't know how you'd really prove that :/
