Just by the by, why is it that we can get a great quality of videofree from this site when in comparison paid-for Saints Player looks like it's been filmed on a phone through a stocking? Vin
I know, I have often said the same. I have felt like a lone voice, as plenty of others on here have an account at the Saints OS, but nobody ever mentions the poor quality of the video. If you look at the sets of match highlights on the Saints player, there are two versions. One is the official Barclays highlights, and the other is Saints own extended highlights. There is a notable picture quality reduction in the Saints video and this [I believe] is a result of editing the Radio Solent commentary into the video. Personally, I think Saints could do much better than this, if they really bothered, but nobody complains, so we continue with the poor picture quality. I can't believe people can't see the drop in quality, so I can only observe that they are apathetic about it. I keep my Saints account because there are other things that make it worthwhile, but the extended highlights are a constant disappointment in the quality of match video.
My 'problem' with Jay is that I believe he lacks awareness of what is happening around him (I don't include the Lambert non-pass here as he must have seen him but decided he was the better option). You can't teach the ability to play with your head up like you can other skills. You either have it or you don't. One of the Saints coaches told me years ago that when they are looking at youngsters that is the first thing they look for.
Clearly I was watching a different game. Ramirez was poor in my opinion, yes his setup for Lallana was a bit special but other than that he offered little. Lost the ball on numerous occasions, easily knocked off the ball and doesnt go in to win the ball hard enough. Really hoped he would improve this season (game time has played a part in this) but he just isn't showing what I expected.
Our 'good' players had failed to score a goal, so Ramirez was put on to change things around and we got a goal (and 3 points). If that's a one off, then obviously he isn't good enough, but, if we get a few results like this, he will have proved his usefulness to Mauricio. He may never be a regular starter, but lets wait and see if he can fulfil this role for Saints.
That ball for Lallana was a bit special and definitely intended. How many other players see the pitch in the same way he does? I'd suggest nobody else was capable of that pass...
I've watched it over and over and I'm still not 100% sure. I keep wavering between a sublime pass, and over hit pass to Lambert. I have ruled out 'hit and hope' though.
A case of your brain trying to tell your eyes what they saw. You simply won't have any credit there, even when due and that is a real shame.
I agree. I do also believe that he has something a little more than 'luck' which is where my posting began.
I agree. I'm sure he's going for a one-two with Lambert because of the way he runs after he plays it and that he doesn't really look at Lallana beforehand. I also agree with the other lad on here that Rodriguez is just a hard-worker. I read on an Opta Twitter that no player has lost control of the ball more this season in the BPL than Jay-Rod. Rickie has an eye for a pass, even if he's not been great recently. I would always have him on the pitch. AND as penalty taker.
Pretty sure it was meant...sometimes these things come off and sometimes the recipient will just stumble over it. Got to give him credit.
I'm a fan of JRod. He has a burst of speed and appears from nowhere. A team needs variety in its players...otherwise we are too predictable.
Thank God for that! Of course he needs polishing but he's bursting with potential. All the natural attributes to be an international class striker. As you say, he's a bit of an uncut diamond but we've seen glimpses of excellent finishing ability albeit fleetingly at times
I said I was wavering! Of course, if Cork had made the pass………. To be fair, I said right from the outset that it was a good substitution.
Funnily enough, despite what I said I agree with Fran, I think it was, who said that despite his faults he gives us something that no-one else does and thats not a bad thing. I do think though that he will never develop much beyond what he is now.
