I think this is the very basis of Hughton's defensive tactics sadly. Don't tackle or pressure the opposition, just fall back and hope they miss the shot on goal. Something has to change somewhere.
2-0 down, three mins to go, so the chump takes a striker off for a winger !!!! The defence rests mi lud !
Johnson has got a hatrick and Sunderlands 4th, let's be honest now in the premier league will we see more than 2 goals for us again? It just doesn't seem plausible under the clown, wasnt expecting anything today but same rubbish different ground again for the main part! Bah!
"Chris Hughton will say if we create this amount of chances we have a great chance of staying up" says the commentator. I'm bored of hearing this.
Chippy, there's plenty of ammo and good reason for wanting Hughton out, so don't try to shoehorn something that isn't a reason because it just makes the rest of the argument seem weaker. Hughton set the team up incorrectly, the players have not been fluid enough in their movement, haven't pressed enough and certainly haven't closed Everton down effectively in our own half. Those are your sticks. Bringing on someone with a bit of pace with three mins to go when 2-0 down for an ineffective player is not a stick. It's nothing. If anything, it' say reasonable roll of the dice.
Well that's another nail hammered into the coffin ! Come on McNally show some balls and fire the chump tonight!
That fine Rob I accept your point, so why not do it with 15 mins to go not 3 ? That just adds another " stick" there's so many laying about I don't know which one to pick up next !
We had good chances to score but Everton could have got 4 or 5. I have to say I don't think John Ruddy has been up to much this season, Howard was definitely the better keeper. Bemused as to why Whittaker started at the expense of our real captain. BTW Redmond didn't push them deeper or anything, they were just content with 2-0 so decided to drop back but I think playing Garrido in midfield and Olsson at left back was the wrong way round. Still we at least played to a level that I believe (although many will disagree) that we did ourselves proud and never gave up. Onto the next game, OTBC
Five shots on target two goals. We desperately need: (1) a new CB. A really good one (2) a new ACM who can pass and keep possession. Doesn't need to be a goal scorer, just someone who will give us a bit of control (3) a player to seize the opportunity to really lead and lift the team (4) Pilks and Howson back from injury. We've been broadly dreadful since Howson has been out (5) a bit of a break. We are getting no luck whatsoever from the referee. Something like the pen against West Ham. Other teams get them, I'd like some of that, please, so at least we can then play with a bit more confidence I'm sure some of you will add (6) a new manager, but I think that time has passed. I maintain he should have been fired in early December, now a new manager will not have the time and any transfer work will be a waste. We have Hughton until at least late February, I'd have thought. Might as well resolve our playing staff issues first, because we'd still need all the above even if we do get a new manager. On a random note, does anyone know when the BBC started referring to our captain as "Bassong Nguena"?
We lost to a very good team. I said I wouldn't criticise CH so I won't. The Hull game is now a real must-win. This season is hard work.
Wrong formation, wrong approach, and I think I might now be a fully paid up member of the wrong manager camp. We're away to a top team who are excellent in possession - so why on earth are we playing 4-4-2? Didn't work at at out of sorts Spurs, so what made Hughton think it'd work today? First half Everton had 67% possession, which is a clear sign things aren't working, but the formation made a rod for Hughton's back because taking a striker off at half time when you're losing gets you crucified. It should have been 4-5-1, whilst I didn't mind the Olsson/Garrido set-up on the left, but Redmond on the right would have been my preference, Snodgrass was useless for 80 mins, and doesn't deserve his place based on recent performances. Everton were always going to have 3 central midfielders, they've played that way all season, so we should have matched the numbers with Fox or Wes in there, leaving RvW up top. Don't know where we go from here. Unless the board have someone in mind, I don't think we'd get someone in before the end of the window, so we've got to stick with him for now, otherwise we're unlikely to make the signings we need. If we want to play 4-4-2 we need a £10m upgrade on Johnson, or an attacking midfielder to feed a lone striker. Sounded like Bennett actually played ok, but still need another centre back.
