The Chairboys are back on the road for the first time since their 4-1 win over the Cobblers three weeks, ago thank god I hear you say, in fact can we close down Adams Park and play all our games away from home after all we are called Wanderers. After clear the air talks last Sunday lets hope somebody pointed out to Gaz that the 4-5-0 formation don't work and there is a nice seat on the bench for Kuffour and Arnold, as there has been no activity in the transfer / loan market we go in to yet another game without a leftback or centre forward with a bit of muscle with Deno still a week or two away and Dunne long gone, so its back to Sam Wood at left back and 3 centre mids but lets hope we start with Craig and McClure up top not ideal but the best we've got at present. We are currently unbeaten against the Shrimps but after last week I'm not expecting that run to continue lets hope I'm wrong so we can go into the game against Oxford with some hope COYB
this is a vital game for gaz, and possibly his last if we put in another lame display on the way to defeat. this teams difficult to pick, but I wonder if its time for a return of either kretch or knott on the left wing to allow a 4-4-2 formation - the left side would be a bit weak but at least the rest of the team might be a bit more balanced. ive given up hope of spring being in the team, but hopefully gaz will at least play bloomfield or kretch in the middle instead of the scowen lewis combo ingram wood stewert LJ McCoy knott bloomfield scowen PCH McClure craig
I don't understand why some of us are turning against Gaz. He was an inspiration. So what's happened? Is his heart somewhere else? Is he being undermined? Are there personal differences in the dressing room? Obviously something is wrong but I can't see it from here. Maybe the lack of performance, particularly in front of home crowds, has gradually run down his battery and he is losing heart, which would be a shame. I'm really disappointed that a legend, who appeared to have a very promising managerial career ahead of him, is losing the trust of fans. It's a cruel world.
personally I have never said he should be sacked, and id like to see him stay in the job as I think he has fantastic potential. there have been flaws, which inexperience may well be a factor in, that some fans will constantly criticize. reasons I have seen people call for his head are as follows - constantly playing kuffour - lack of wingers - no cover at left back - constant time wasting - poor subsitutions - poor discipline - constant team changes - playing scowen and lewis in the same midfield - but the main one is the ainsworths managerial tactics seem to be based on a lot of arm waving and motivation, not so much tactical. this personally was my fear when gaz first took the job and I think there is some basis on this. however he is certainly no worse than managers we have had before, looks to be learning with every game and I think many fans look to make a drama out of things. looking through the factors above gaz cannot be held accountable for all of them, and many are certainly not worth a manager losing their job over. a run of one win in 11 is very bad but from what I understand (my games this season have been somewhat limited) that isent a true reflection on performances you may have hit a point with the comment in bold though - home performances have been poor and its not gaz so much losing heart, its the fans. attendances are down, the atmosphere is among the worst its been for some years and theres little to cheer about on the pitch. im hoping the derby game against oxford will rejuvenate this somewhat and I honestly believe that if we string a couple of good results together we can go on a good run like at the start of this season, or the end of last. COYB
With the Gareth manager bit you have a an ex player who has got a good reputation at the club it is always likely to end up in tears living in Southampton I keep an eye on the Pompey 606 site they had the same problem when Guy Whittingham was appointed some people on their did not want him as manager because of the same reason
COYB! glad to see paris on the scoresheet, lets hope we can hold onto this! glad to see the return of two strikers as well
This is about the time I would like to see a change just to freshen it up, rather then wait for something bad to happen first.
f**k. 1-1 Don't panic, Kuffour is coming on. please log in to view this image please log in to view this image
disappointing really, 1-1 should have won according to chairboys player. we need to go and attack oxford next week, and hope really!
So close to 3 points. Clearance off the line in injury time, and one earlier. Sounds like it was a decent performance.
Yes not a bad result but still only 2pts above the relegation zone still Pompey are only 1pt & Bristol R on goal difference it could be worse
