You could hear indivudual players shouting at each other at almost every game in the late 90s. It was like a tomb on a regular basis.
I really don't get what you're trying to achieve here. Are you thinking those of us that enjoyed those days will turn round and say 'yeah, you're right actually'. You prefer soulless money dominated on pitch success with glory supporting sycophants watching our games. I don't. I'm not trying to change your mind, I accept you prefer that.
Agree, it's not funny at one level, but you just have to wince and shrug it off as a carcrash of a soundbite from some flaky old feller who is badly out of his depth. After 104 years of failure, I confess to wanting a turn at the top table. It's not the be-all and end-all of football, but it's where everyone aspires to be, the benchmark, the elite etc. It's not our club's fault that footbal has been perverted by money nor is it any reason to wish we were in Lg 2 again. **** the lower leagues. **** the fat cat Premier League too in fact. HCFC need to be at the highest level we can be for as long as we can, so we become part of the Establishment of English football.
It's not about 'me' or 'you'. It's about HCFC being at the highest level possible. (For the record my personal enjoyment of the matchday experience lessens every month, the division we're in is relatively uninfluential in that)
Not sure anyone said they wanted to be back there, just they missed things from them days even the dodgy kits
Would never want to go back to them, of course, but there were some great days. 2-0 win at Brentford to come off the bottom of Div 4, winning in CC cup at Palace - the atmosphere at those two was amongst the best I have ever known.
I ****ed up trains across London for this game and turned up at half time. I was delighted it went to extra time I then got my pic on the front cover of the HDM celebrating.
I was living in the South when that Brentford game was played and said to my wife ( who didn't understand my other love "City") come to this game, it is the last time I might see my team in the football league. She reluctantly came, we won 2-0 and as they sat." The Rest Is History"
Great atmosphere that night - and Rocky's finest moment for us if I remember correctly. He was brilliant that night. EDIT: Seems I remember wrong! Which match am I thinking of in which he played so well, then? I was at that Palace game, though. FURTHER EDIT: Rocky's finest moment for us was in the next round, up at Newcastle, wasn't it?
Remember him having a blinder at Cambridge one cold midweek night. We one 0-1, I think. I enjoyed those days mainly because I didn't know any better, but we are punching our weight in 'the best league in the world', so I'd rather not go back.
You're probably confused cos Rocastle was there in the crowd that night in a blaze of publicity and he signed the day after.
Hopefully that date ended up being 4th May 2013. Not quite the same feeling about the prospect at the time though.
if your talking about the Cardiff game it was the first one i went too i got in the Green mail 3 times because of that match haha didnt realise it was that long ago though!
