I don't blame him really. It must be frustrating for a striker who only gets an occasional look-in and even then often scores. SB can't be faulted in the way he has brought on our defence, midfield and generally organised the team, but I sometimes think he lacks the same ability to get the most out of forward players. Prozzy, Gedo, Fryatt, Stewart, Mclean, Graham and even Sagbo could have benefitted from more intense scrutiny / training by a specialised striker coach working in tandem with Bruce. As it is SB seems to persevere with a striker for a fair amount of time, but if the player doesn't sort out his own issues he gets pushed into the background and replaced with new blood.
Do we have a coach for each zone? I know Lyon do & the striker coach over the last 8 or so years has been Sonny Anderson who lives here. In fact I know where he has his coffee on Sunday mornings at 8am
Or enjoying a fat pay check check he won't get anywhere else. I think he prefers the cash to the action so why would he move.
I suppose the problem with employing a striker coach is that there are lots of different types of strikers with different styles and presumably your striker coach will have had his own style of play, so will he be able to coach a player with different attributes? For example with Proschwitz, he's obviously a pretty good finisher when he gets a chance but the rest of his play is just not up to PL standard.
If Prozzy was fast he'd be bloody brilliant. But he's just featherweight and cannot keep up with the pace or compete physically over here. Shame because technically he's very good. He'll do well in a place where they play non contact football like Spain.
There is no way i'd have graham starting ahead of him, if for no other reason than that he's OUR player. Let's not play a loan player ahead of ours, especially since grahams **** and Prossy (despite being fairly ****) scores when he plays.
If Prossy score when he plays, he'd be playing and we wouldn't be looking for a striker. If he could gain some strength, he'd be decent. I didn't think he was good enough last year, in the Championship, never mind in the Premiership.
I've heard that reason before, but I don't buy it. A good ex striker or someone who has worked with top strikers should be able to pass on a lot of assistance - remember how Chilton transformed Whitehurst? Sagbo's directional play for example is an obvious flaw in a young striker that an old head with the right experience could probably improve very quickly. All of our strikers have basic, identifiable faults that even we supporters can see, so a good coach would know exactly what was necessary.
I would, I think he's better, obviously you don't. Football is a game of opinions, that's what makes it interesting.
Total agree with this, don't know why we haven't brought in a striker coach to get the lot of them firing on all cylinders. It could be the sort of coaching job Deano could handle provided doesn't do most of the coaching in the pub
But when you say would you play Graham instead of Prossy. It hard to make the decision between the two as Prossy hasn't started and Graham has had two dozen chances. Play Prossy for five games, then if he doesn't come good OUT.
It wouldn't be a job for Deano IMO. He really struggled in the prem so I don't think our current crop of strikers would respect his advice. We could do with someone with a good pedigree from one of Europe's top divisions. Edit; Sorry my reply should have been to merchantman's post.
Great news then. Big Nick is the best finisher we have at the club. Shame that he is as soft as brown stuff when playing. But that goal at Middlesboro was just5 another in a long line of great goals he has scored for us. He will get another game @ Southend in round 4 for sure.
I have to agree with that, Sagbo has one huge flaw, and that's it, numerous times this season you look in the middle to see him but he's not there as he likes to pull out wide to much. Surely a good coach could coach that out of him? You wouldn't need to be a specific type of striker either to teach that, nearly all of the best ex strikers had that movement and knowing where to be whether they was quick or not.
ide like to see gedo get a game looks a far better goal scorer than any of our other strikers plus hes also quicker than the rest of them !
