Gus Poyet has confirmed that Sunderland are on the brink of signing Estudiantes defender Santiago Vergini, and admitted that Argentina goalkeeper Mariano Andújar could join him. As MirrorSport exclusively revealed yesterday , the 25-year-old defender will rip up the remaining six months of his contract to sign for the Black Cats and he will become Sunderland's second signing of the month. "With Vergini, we're close," Poyet revealed. "I've talked to him and it's well on the way. I've known him for years." "I like the style of South American goalkeepers and Andújar is a player that I like and I know." Poyet also confirmed that Internacional forward Ignacio Scocco was a target for the club, as reported by MirrorSport last month .
17 minutes ago @eaamalyon Andújar is Argentina's number two keeper, probably better than Vito Mannone. Vergini no huge upgrade on what they have. Scocco very good.
We need cover/competition in goal Looks like Diakite & Cuellar could leave so we would need another CB & we need a forward I just hope they are all good enough for the prem if this is all true.
He def coming like lads?? Not seen that anywhere? Where is the link?? Gus confirmed he was a target but doesn't say he's coming!! He was a target last year Aswel iirc..
I cant translate on my phone There are gus quotes in it http://m.espn.go.com/deportes/nota?storyId=1996326&src=desktop&cc=7586
England coach Sunderland, Uruguayan Gustavo Poyet said Thursday it is "aimed" the inclusion of defender Santiago Student Vergini, while admitting interest in the Argentine striker Ignacio Scocco, currently at Inter Porto Alegre, and goalkeeper Mariano selected Andújar. "We are close, it is designed, but not yet confirmed," said Poyet on pass Vergini by a sports channel Argentina. Poyet, successful step as a player for Spain and England, revealed that Vergini it came watching since I was coach of Brighton & Hove Albion, last year and it was intended to hire the defender if it amounted to the Premier League, which could not be achieved. A in highlighting the arguments by which proposed the hiring of former Newell's, he listed "the air, a good understanding of football, character leadership and play. has a bit of that," he said. well admitted for midyear will seek a reinforcement line and having to Scocco and looks also goalkeeper Mariano Andujar, of Argentina selected and Catania. Regarding the front said that whenever he saw Newell's to follow Vergini "Scocco in every game was a goal." However, he was cautious in As for the chances that the English club has to incorporate.

Verghini I'm a little bit intrigued by, actually. I watch a stack of Argentine football, but I won't say I really notice defenders, so sorry on that score. What I do know is that when Newell's gaffer went to Barca, he tried to take the lad with him. I'm not suggesting this makes him Barca standard, after all he didn't sign, but it does at least show a coach had the belief that he had a chance over there, at such a huge club. However little that means, I'm having it as a positive.
he does look pretty damn good, even though most youtoob videos do. love his little chip/dink goal....and the rocket into the top corner from what appeared to be close to the touchline. sign him up Gus.
Mmm.... is this fella what we need? underland manager Gus Poyet confirms he is interested in controversial Catania goalkeeper Mariano Andujar. The Argentina international shot-stopper has spent the last few rounds on the bench of the Serie A bottom club after a row with fans over his performances. “I like the style of South American goalkeepers and Andujar is a player that I like and know,” Poyet told the Daily Mirror. Andujar has a fiery personality and the 30-year-old has been at Catania since July 2009, albeit with loan spells at Huracan and Estudiantes. He was frozen out at Catania in January 2011 after a blazing row with the club chiefs, then returned in June 2012. There were further problems, as Andujar received a three-match ban for punching Edgar Barreto in the stomach during a Sicilian Derby against Palermo. His contract runs until June 2015. http://www.football-italia.net/43610/sunderland-want-andujar?
A Brazilian mate says he's very good although he tends to play "too much football for a defender". He's apparently a Di Fanti contact which makes me a bit nervous.
Why? He'll be scouted by Valentino Angeloni, picked out to Poyet's specifications. So in essence you're nervous about our head scout and head coaches decisions too. Who would you like to scout and pick new players for us? Or have you not grasped how our DoF set actually works? Poyet has already confirmed he's been offered the portfolio's of over 100 players, do you think they're randomly plucking from the list? Or could they be working as team to narrow that list down taking care and attention to try and bring the right players in?
Blimey! I didn't know you were part of this forum Mr di Fanti. I'm sure Vergini is a wonderful footballer and will be fantastic for us. I'm totally aware of how the DoF structure is supposed to work. I'm also totally aware that, in many cases, especially in this country, it hasn't. Crucially it depends on the DoF knowing what he's doing. Given some of the dross he brought in during the summer the jury's still out for me.
