there are people campaigning for it...

the heat was said not to be a factor as all stadia were to be air conditioned.

haha, they made the most obviously bent decision in the history of football with the whole world watching on.

If you think that a few protests will make them alter the course that they've been so handsomely paid to steer the ship down, then you've got rocks in your head mate. They've been bought & they've got no option but to deliver on the promise that they've already been paid for.

Yeah no way in the world will they change it to another country now (not that Qatar's even a proper country like). It would only happen if there was a massive protest from the top European clubs but haven't the top European leagues already agreed they won't oppose a switch?

Whats the attendance to most games going to be like?

Seen in the past that some games at world cups are poorly attended. What happens when its a stinker of a game or two countries that have little draw?
It'll be covered up in Brazil cause the country is mad for football and the local public will watch almost any game. But in Qatar where there is little interest and the sport is down the pecking order, Qatar only want it to say they've had it, gotta question how many locals are going to attend. Don't think there will be loads of foreign fans travelling (not as many as for a country like Germany).

The whole idea of taking it to new places around the world is a mistake as you end up with Brazil being months behind and possibly not being ready on time. Have Russia even started preparing yet?
The 2022 World cup is destined to be a giant **** up even before the idea of moving to Winter has been discussed.

Here's a thought - why don't we just say we're not competing in it? See how many other European countries (and North American?) don't want to **** their league programmes for three years, and have our own summer mini league of, say, eight countries who we play home and away?

Seriously I'd be happy with that....get it sorted DD It would be great to call the ****ers bluff at least...All it would take is a few of the big names and a few **** countries that haven't even qualified (Wales and Scotland obviously)....do a big fat tv deal....Bob's your uncle.

Apparently the tv companies (Fox especially) will be pissed with the tournament getting moved as the yanks won't watch it (NFL season in full swing).

To be honest the Russia WC is going to look like a ****ing extravaganza after the next two.

Brazil is profiting off the backs of the insanely poor people in favelas, increasing bus fares, corruption is rife, infrastructure is crumbling everywhere other than the most densely populated tourist areas etc etc. Also there's so much crime there even now, if you visit you're probably going to get robbed once at least if you leave your hotel. During the WC every petty crook in South America will take advantage of the World Cup and we will see murders, kidnappings, robberies, beatings, etc.

I like Brazil but at this moment in time they are trying to show their economic strength yet the people's poverty shoves them into criminal behaviour.

Don't get me started on Qatar. Will probably be the worst WC the world has ever hosted. Empty stadiums other than the local Sheikh wishing to be photographed with his entourage, minimal drinking around stadiums or anywhere in the country, slaves dying on the terraces where you and I would stand.

Russia is going to use the farce of WC2014 and WC2018 to make a huge propaganda campaign. By showing their wealth and relatively western values, they'll make it more like 2006 and dazzle the world with the way World Cups "should" be held. 90% of Russian males like football, much like anywhere in Europe. That combined with the familiarity of not having to see the poor (by which I mean the media poor, otherwise known as non-whites) in the stands next to you (god forbid) will put Russia in a positive media light. All this while the oligarchs laugh in the directors boxes with caviar and vodka.

Football as a fair and ethical sport is finished. It's up to you if you care for the modern version or not.

Russia is 2018, Qatar is 2022. So Russia is sandwiched in between, hence why I asked if they had started preparing. Brazil has known longer than any previous country (before Qatar) that it was hosting the WC yet they have still failed to meet deadlines, Should Russia be learning from this have things finished and in place by early 2017. As it is they're down to 4 years already.

On an interest level don't think many people have an objection to Russia. Football is the number 1 sport, huge following and is well established with some very big clubs. The objection is to the politics, rife racism at games, potential hooliganism and homophobic stance of Russia, all of which have been highlighted with the upcoming Winter Olympics. Add to that its a well known secret the oligarchs, like Abramovich, 'paid' a big part in getting it.

Qatar has all these problems as well as appalling worker rights and virtually no interest or history in Football.

But one thing is for certain, Qatar will be ready on time with fancy state of the art Stadia as they'll just throw money as it and Fifa.

One of my colleagues had a meeting with the Qatari Gov. a year or two ago to try to sell them our system and he mentioned the World Cup. My colleague (a scouser) asked them if they will be relaxing the drinking laws during the world cup to accommodate the Europeans (and rest of the world I suppose). The response was "you English are so arrogant. The only team guaranteed a place at the World Cup is Qatar. Who says you will even make it. And besides, we have enough football fans in the Middle East to fill the stadiums without any of you even coming over!"... Kind of defeats the point of a World Cup if the only people there are Arabs! ha

The best thing is that judging by our youth teams I think you are 100% correct. I don't think we'll qualifiy for that world cup but it will still effect the Premier League which is ****.

Isn't it something like the USA are going to take over this 2022 world cup... isn't that the conspiracy theory?

now... as for affecting the prem.. lets think about it.

when would the tournament start, when would players be released, how long would it go on for.... would our christmas schedule be destroyed in england...

A world cup takes about one month to play. so thats 12th june to 13th july 2014 in brazil.

Add at least 2 weeks for teams preparing.

    so 6 weeks.

start november 1, end.. dec 14.

    doesn't sound "too bad"

start the 2022 season in july not august. finish in early jun 2023... have 2023 season start in august as normal.

Its actually not that bad a disruption. The biggest thing for england is if its dec-january world cup as OUR festive schedule is destroyed. we like our footy on boxing day and new years... .we'd have to watch the championship where tud will be playing... <laugh>

I think it'd be manageable myself and fifa knows it.... however it is two off seasons disrupted not one.

Sorry had my dates mixed up. I guess the attention Qatar got made it precede Russia.

As for the whole politics thing... No matter where its held it will have huge political issues. The United States does worse things daily and they got it.

I'm just pissed that Qatar got it in the first place. Nearly the entire footballing world is against it. Money talks but the people can simply decide not to join in the farce. Of course no one will dare unless others do.
