I didn't miss the point WJ. If I was dealing with Bates, I would demand every little bit of detail, whereas if I was dealing with people who were perceived to be "honest" through their previous deeds, I may not undertake such detail. As for Harvey, the guy is a slime ball who was Bates's puppet and instead of going into the detail of the requests to ask why, he decided to try and make the council look hypocritical. Maybe they were...but it was Bates and Harvey and therefore completely justifiable.
Of course anything to do with Bates should be investigated to the nth degree. Same with councils. Councils in general have always carried more than a whiff of suspicion with them. Harvey was right to question them, no question in my mind - but the council did the right thing (for once!) & did not give way.
I'd heavily disagree on Stewart. Hull fans were complaining that they were becoming TOO reliant on him performing well a few years back when he was only 21ish year old and was a regular star performer under Nick Barmby however after Steve Bruce came in he appears to have no taken a liking to him (prehaps much like Neil Warnock and Adam Clayton) and was frozen out especially after they signed Sone Aluko however I'm no Hull fan so I'll bow to any inbred pussycats knowledge. Charlton appear to be willing to fight for his signature and he scored a cracker against us and he's everything we need (pace, dribbling etc) Wouldn't be too quick to rule him out as a good Championship player especially at 23 year old.
KMIG, Leicester had a 2m bid knocked back from Hull a couple years ago for him. It just hasn't taken off for him since
